I love these kind of threads so I thought I would make my own. I have $1400 to spend on a new gun. Please help me spend it on something. Right now I've been eyeing the Sig STX and Platinum Elite 1911s, but I'm open to suggestions. No 9mm though.

I have a Springfield Loaded 1911 in stainless for sale. Would even have plenty of leftovers for ammo

Thanks for the suggestion. Extra funds for ammo will not be needed. I have plenty to last me for a long, long time. I would like to use pretty much the whole amount on the gun. May make some room for a couple more mags, but it's not completely necessary.

You're just $!50 or so away from some NIB Les Baer pricings I've seen. Might be worth a stretch?

Or, just at your budget, how about a Sig Sauer P226 X-Five?

Not sure what you're looking for, just throwing out ideas. You could probably find a really nice NIB/LNIB HK P7M8 if you look around enough.

I'd really like to stay in the 1911 arena. Will check out the Baer though. Thanks!

That thought did cross my mind, but I don't like all the "lawyer-talk" on the frames. I like my frames to be as plain as possible. Really like the CBOB 10mm, but those are tough to find also.

May be a Dan Wesson in your future?

That would be nice. I like the black VBOBs, but they are outta my price range. I like the CBOBs, but would prefer the 10mm and those are hard to find. So I don't know if a DW like what I like will be possible.

Have you looked at the P30? Admittedly it's less than you want to spend (and i'm not sure how that is a bad thing :p) but it is anything but bulky and can be customized with adjutable side and back straps from elf to ogre hands.

If it were my money...
For a range/HD gun - Springfield TRP, Dan Wesson Heritage, S&W "E" series.
For CCW/HD gun - Dan Wesson VBOB or Guardian, S&W "E" series bobtail.
Preferably stainless steel. YMMV.

I did check out the STIs. Not really sure if there is any one model that speaks to me.

How about a Colt?

The Special Combat Government looks nice to me, if you like some combat bells & whistles:

Colt Series 70s are what, $800? You could get one of those and have Colt or someone else do just what you want to it:

If it's target shooting you're after, the Gold Cup is always a classic:

My favorite, I think, is the plain Anniversary model. A couple of little things printed on the slide to remind us it is as special year for 1911s, but not overdone, as other marques are prone to do:

Lastly, you mentioned you like the idea of a 10mm. I don't think you could go wrong with a Delta Elite:

I'll second the thought to look at Baers. Most of 'em seem to be well loved, so buying used is likely safe. I couldn't/shouldn't have bought mine NIB.

You might already have, but maybe consider spending less on the initial purchase and using the balance to send it in for some tuning/customization.

I can't wait to see what you get and the pics start rolling in. This is going to be a 1911 with more furniture than the Biltmore Estate :p.

for the love of that is holy, don't spend $1,400 on a sig 1911

get yourself a springfield TRP :)

I wouldn't spend the whole amount on one. I'm only looking at the STX and the Platinum Elite and I'm seeing both of them for $900 to $1000.

I looked for Baers on GB and didn't find anything in my price range that really caught my eye.

I really liked the STI Duty One I got a chance to look over a wile back. You might want to check out one of those. Baers are really good too, though. keep us posted!

Got a deal in the works right now, but I don't want to jinx it yet.
