I purchased rem 1187 auto earlier this year, never had auto before, gettin older thought why not, maybe the older is my problem, it seems so awkward to load, not like my old pump guns. Is their any aftermarket gizmo to make loading the magazine easier? Seems like Im all thumbs with it. I bought it for cyote huntin in brush, which it does a good job of. Any thoughts, suggestions? Thanks jbat:confused::

You will get used to it. Just use the shells to punch in the button on the carrier and slide the loads into the magazine tube. Don't try to hold the button in with your finger. When you get the magazine loaded, yank the bolt handle all the way back and a shell will present itself to go into the chamber when you release the bolt. Then put another shell in the magazine to replace the one chambered. Or you can pop one into the chamber, then load the magazine by using the shells to push in the carrier button.

It will become second nature soon.

Don't get me wrong, the 11-87 is a great gun but that is my biggest complaint against the 11-87, and the primary reason I am using Beretta and Benelli shotguns now. evbutler462's advice is good and with practice it is easier. I found that I could make it work pretty well with 2 3/4" shells, but 3" shells always gave me problems.

It ain't no problem. You'll get used to it. I used one all season for Ducks, geese, cranes, and quail. It sure takes the thump outa those 3" mag steel shot loads.
