Help with laser sights

First of all, I don't think I would dig Crimson Trace and the way they activate. I think I just want a rail mounted laser sight. I am looking to buy a Taurus 1911; I want the sights for that gun.

I may want to just go for the rail-mounted lasermax red. I really wanted a green laser as I think it would be much easier to see, but there are a few problems with that. I really like the lasermax design, they are very small, but the green is said to have a battery life of only 40-60 minutes; not to mention, the green only pulses, it never stays concentrated. What is up with that? The other green option is viridium sights, but first of all, they don't fit a Taurus 1911. Besides, I think they look very bulky. These supposedly get 4 hours with constant light...why such a difference?

Anyways, I just wanted to ask for advice/recommendations. Thanks ahead of time.

You will want a laser grip. The moment you touch the handgun to hold it that laser reminds you about the trigger in a strange sort of way. Almost as if it's ready to shoot a hole where the red dot is.

Dont be in a hurry to get the green lasers. I have several big ones on the shotguns and they inflict second degree burns on skin less than a foot away and are capable of starting fires should they constantly shine on something.

I bought two of the aimsoft greens, one has self destructed and the other is awaiting replacement with a red laser system.

The Laser Grips for a handgun with red is a good way to go, Im waiting for that dallop of stimulus our uncle O has signed to arrived before picking one up.

It is better to rely on the tridots already on the gun, lasers are not perfect.

I've got a red lasermax on a carbine and it works great for that. very compact and bright, easy on/off. I haven't tried it on a pistol.

Ya, I don't plan to totally depend on the laser. I think I would like it for training and home defense, but aside from that, I will use the sights. I will still give CT thought, but they are quite expensive. Thanks for the advice so far.

You get what you pay for, and the Crimson Trace grips are worth their asking price.

csice, I found a green lazer sight on Ebay that's Weaver rail mounted. It hailed from China or Hong Kong as I recall. Bought it last year to fit on my AR. It doesn't pulse and the batteries are still going strong. You might want to do a search on Ebay. It was about £20 - roughly $40 at the time. Wasn't the usual cheap crap either.

Found it! Cheaper than I remembered. I use mine with the simple on off switch. You adjust it like a regular telescopic sight for elevation / windage.

Thanks for alerting me to that option. I just want to see what is out there so I can find something that works well and doesn't look too bulky; the only conceivably good brands for lasers that I have found are Crimson Trace, Lasermax, and Viridian. I don't really want the laser to stick out past the end of the barrel or go below the trigger guard.

Lucky, I have the burns on my arms to prove it. Im sitting there boresighting one gun at 25 feet to the green laser and my arm burned. I ignored it until I realized it burns.

The damn laser emitter was near the muzzle at the time 4 inches away and it managed to burn a part of the wrist while I was fiddling with the boresighter.

It was enough of damage to break out the ointment and start treatment. A week later it healed without infection.

Fires can be started by these things. I am switching back over the red lasers with a different type of switching so that off is indeed off. As I stated before, one blew up during a shoot and the other show signs of failing as well. I am going to toss both of em into the trash and go with a different laser.

No laser needed on the handgun, cataract surgery took care of that.

And yes the green laser is capable of destructing the eye's vision.

Sometimes we have a phase where we realize all the whazoo laser technology is all whiz bang and get exciting and reality sets in and you go back to normal iron or dot sights which work just as well.

I got a lasermax red. It lasted 3 shots out of my sig 226 357. It's going to go back tomorrow. Try another one.

Heh just kidding. Yea I read stronger lasers can be pretty bad on the eyes especially when you accidentally bounce them off glass or mirrored surfaces. And IR ones worse yet.


This flashlight is a laser designed to spread/diverge enough to use like a flashlight that blinds people, or dazzles them.
