I recently was given a bunch of reloading equipment and supplies that was a friends dads who passed a couple years ago, the problem is I got a lot of older powder all of it is in 4 or 8lb containers that were never opened, I opened and smelled one and it smelled ok but I dont know what data to use with them they are prob late 80' vintage? the three powders are accurate arms mp5744, mr3100 and mr223. are these the same as aa5744, aa3100 and aa22300? would I be safe to use new data with these powders if I start low and work up? any help would be great I would hate to not be able to use these.

I'm still loading powders that I bought in the early 1970's, so your powder is probably still fine, if it's been stored properly. You'll probably do better with a phone call. Most powder companies get tons of e-mails and they don't always answer them all.

When you got that batch of goodies did you get a loadbook with it? I use the data books for the propellant that were published for it at the aprox. same date and have had no problems with my loads. The other advice will help if not and act as a cross check anyway. GunBroker and places like ebay are your friend,you can get old loadbooks for cheap if you are patient.

If you dig some in the pile you will probably find pay dirt. Might be bullet manuals or literature from the propellant manufacturers. Good luck!!
