Help with Winchester Model 94 re-assembly

Hello all. Got my Model 94 completely stripped down and have been trying to get it back together. Everthing seems to be working good except for the trigger group. I have it completely disassembled and can't get it back together so that when you pull back the hammer it cocks back. It just is free moving right now, don't what I'm doing wrong. Any help would be appreciated.

A picture of the group as you've tried to reassemble it would be enormously helpful.

Why is it stripped completely down?
Did it break?

Otherwise there is no real good reason to take a 94 apart that far if you don't know how to put it back together.

Castbullet tutorial doesn't show anything about trigger guard disassembly and I've already gone through Gun Digest Book of Disassembly.

It hadn't been cleaned in oh 20 or so years so I thought a thorough cleaning would be in order. And I was right, never seen grime like that.

Next time just hose it out with WD-40. Thats how I clean just about everything that I don't want to take apart.

Sorry I'm not more helpful in getting it back together again. I will also add: Don't be afraid to take it to a good gunsmith if you can't get it back together. I had to do it with a 1300 several years ago. That's when I used the WD-40 trick

Castbullet tutorial doesn't show anything about trigger guard disassembly and I've already gone through Gun Digest Book of Disassembly.

I'm not sure what you mean about "trigger guard disassembly." The trigger guard on a Model 94 is simply a piece of steel integral with the loop.

If you look at the last disassembly picture in the Castbullet tutorial, you see the loop and associated parts in their proper relationship.

But you say:

This tells me that the trigger and hammer assembly may be the culprit. Look at the trigger assembly in the last disassembly picture. Particularly note the relationship between the mainspring guide and the rest of the assembly. Note that the curve of the guide is open part up.

My mistake, meant to say trigger group assembly.

This tells me that the trigger and hammer assembly may be the culprit. Look at the trigger assembly in the last disassembly picture. Particularly note the relationship between the mainspring guide and the rest of the assembly. Note that the curve of the guide is open part up.

I'm pretty sure I got the mainspring guide in the right position, the part that I think is the problem is the small almost "wedge" shaped piece that goes in with the same pin that hold holds the trigger shoe togther. I'm waiting for my camera to charge so I can get a picture.

Here is the picture of the trigger group completely disassembled. I have marked the piece that I am having trouble with (so I think) -

The part circled is the sear.
It goes on the right side of the trigger and is operated by the same spring still in the tang that operates the trigger safety bar, also apparently still in the tang.

Put the back end of the sear arm under the spring, and then pin the trigger / sear assembly in place.

It should dovetail with the trigger thusly (53 & 52)

You have a later coil-spring rifle and your sear spring will be wire, not a flat spring as shown in the schematic.

It all works the same though.

Make absolutely sure your trigger safety bar operates when you get it together.
