Here is the scenario... I already own a 9mm S&W 6906. I really like it, and better yet my wife enjoys shooting it...

I want to add a few new guns... I would like to add .380, 40cal, 45 cal. I understand some of you don't like certain calibers..but that is not what I am asking...... I want price/quality. I want something attractive and dependable and accurate (not concerned with any type of competition accuracy though) Don't want crap, but can't afford the best either. I like compact or sub-compact... willing in the 45 to get slightly bigger if need, but still like at biggest compact size... In the 40, I like the Glock/XD style, 45 of course the 1911 style....380 I am open..

Here is the deal.. I want to stay around $1200-$1300... I wouldn't mind having a different maker for each caliber either... And I am not a pro like most of you guys, so I do like "good looking" guns over ugly ones. I am looking at new or pre-owned.. but be fair in suggesting used price (don't give me the rock bottom deal of a lifetime price that you guys saw 2 years ago... and with used I am inclined only to buy what I can see in person..so that needs to be taken with consideration when suggesting the used priced). With all of that in mind, what makes and models do you guys suggest..

.380?
.40?
.45?

I'd say for the .380 a bersa thunder, for .40 a XD service model (4"), and for .45 a Springfield Mil-spec. Adds up to that cost pretty nicely.

$350 for a used SIG 230 or 232,$400 for a factory refurbed G23,$450 for used SIG 220.Use the rest on ammo.

.380 Bersa Thunder - $200.00
.40 Glock 23 - $400.00
.45 Colt 1911 - $600.00

that leaves $100 for fresh ammo - go for it!

.380-Bersa or Hi Point if for just plinking,Kel Tec if for carry
.40S&W-Sig 229 CPO-plus you can get a 357sig barrel later
.45-HK USP fullsize...New at CDNN-$672...

Option 1.

Sell S&W 6906. (~$350)
Buy HK P7M8. ($1200)
Pocket whatever you got for the 6906 + $100, spend on wife to lessen anger over buying such an expensive geegaw. ;)

Option 2.

Keep S&W 6906. ($0)
Spent $1300 on wife, have no reason to stay up late at night on gun forums for at least six months.

Option 3.

Keep S&W 6906. ($0)
Divorce wife. ($1300+)
Time left over not catering to wife will allow more time on gun forums, drumming up ways to spend surplus income on guns. I chose this option, only I've never been married. ($1300+)

Option 4.

Keep S&W 6906. ($0)
.380 Browning BDA, very pretty, wife will probably enjoy shooting it; via GunBroker, $400-500.
.40S&W Browning Hi-Power Practical or MKIII, I prefer the MKIII myself; via Bud's for ~$630, plus shipping and transfer fees.
.45 Colt 1911 XSE, with your choice of models, anywhere from $700-900.
This goes over your budget, of course. It's a quality choice that even I, with my female-unburdened income, cannot make. :p

Personally I'd sell the 6906 (~$350), get a Browning Hi-Power MKIII 9x19 ($300 +$350 from the 6906, leaves you $1000), skip the .40S&W, get the Colt 1911 and the Browning BDA. ($1100-1300, if you shop for the right deal).

THR ladies, please pardon my humor. I have nothing but the utmost respect for your gender and your marksmanship. :)

.380, CZ-83, Street $300. 13rd magazine available from CDNN. Considered by some to be the best .380 made.

.4,0 XD-40 4" or 5", Street $450, the Glock alternative

.45, Colt 1991A1, Street $600

I'd slow way down honestly, or those guns are all going to be for sale next year. Pick an application, pick a caliber, pick a gun, shop around for best deal, buy gun, learn to master gun through practice, enjoy the gun, repeat.

Option 5.

Divorce S&W 6906. (- mega $, might lose custody battle over the remaining 9mm ammunition.)

Sell wife..?

What he said about the humor :).

Why sell if you can trade in? Only works in the middle east though. ;)

I want price/quality. I want something attractive and dependable and accurate

There are several guns that qualify for that specification. Go look for range reports/trouble report ratio on a particular gun you like, then you can decide price/quality point.

Quality

380 - A Beretta 84/85 or BDA (almost the same). A wonderful gun to shoot. I have a 84f and a Bersa, and can say there is no comparison. Beretta costs more for a good reason. $500 for the Beretta, or look into a Sphinx at less than $500.

.45 - Go for one of the best, HK USP or used Tactical. $600-800

.40 - Forget it this time, go for quality, not quantity. Spend any left over $ on ammo and extra mags.

Bersa

Really looks like Bersa wins the .380... that was pretty much my first choice anyway...'cause I did not want to put much $ in a .380... love the Walther PPK but price is too high...

I probably will not buy all of these at the same time... but do plan on starting a collection, that is why I was asking under this scenario.
