I want a 12GA and my price rang is realy small im trying not to go over $400 can I get I nice O/U for that?
A auto will also work but what guns do you all use for what I listed?
And what gun should I get?
I need you to tell me what brand model and about how much 1 cost.

Thanks
Ricky

Remington 1100, 11-87 go for around $500-600. Used for even less

if your want simi auto get an remington 1100 or 11-87,
myself, i prefer a winchester 1300, (you can still find these at gunshows) or the good old remington 870. you could probably find a 870 with a 28'' barrel at your local Wal mart, or gunshop.

i never did get the idea of spending several thousand dollars on an over/under shotgun, when a pump or could be had for $300 or less.

but whatever you prefer....
if you need a simi auto try looking at gun shops for a used 1100, try to find one still in good shape.
also remington makes a SPR453 i think its called, a simi auto with a self adjusting action for about $400
as a plus it can take shells up to 3.5'' magnums

You're going to have a difficult time finding a decent auto or O/U for $400 unless its been very well used. An 870 pump is the best option in that price range.

New autoloaders typically run in the $650-1000 range. O/U's typically are $1200-2000.

Well icebones the nice thing about a O/U is you can use 2 difrent choke at one time when you are hunting so you make the first shot a MOD and the next a Full depending what you are hunting.
And there a lot safer when shooting skeet the other guys knows whether your gun is loaded or not and if its open you cant shoot.

How many of you have ever shot Skeet Trap or Sporting Clays?

Ricky

The Mossberg 930 semi goes for a little over $400 and is a good gun. Some people complain about the ported barrel since it makes them give a seemingly louder *bang* for those standing to the sides. I've run straights with mine at skeet.

I've shot skeet, trap, five stand and sporting clays, and I've shot most of them with O/Us, 870's, SXS's and even my old 11-48 Remington. I even use a 28 ga 870 sometimes just for fun. Probably 98% of the guys who post in here could beat me, but I think they'll tell you pretty much the same thing.

As sm would say: "Run what ya brung". ;)

I shoot sporting clays and skeet quite often with my 870.

Autos and O/Us are really nice (love my 1100), but pumps do it all too and nice ones can be had in your price range.

I've been shooting sporting clays, 5-stand and wobble for the past 20 years. All with an O/U or autoloader. Loads of fun.

Only shot skeet a few times. Never shot a round of trap. I find both to be dullsville compared to SC.

Don't rule out a pump because you think you wouldn't be fast enough. I have seen lots of new shooters run that pump almost as fast as a semi-auto. It just takes practice until you don't even think about it. This can be done at home with DUMMY ammo. Dual benefit is that you also work polish the action to make it smoother. You will be surprised how much time you actually have on doubles. You pump while bringing the gun around to the next target. Try out a friends and see just how fast it actually is before you decide against it based on speed.

Thats the thing I do not now anyone that lives around me with a pump most of my family is in South Carlina and I only go down there 1 time a year and that for ThanksGiveing so I do not want to buy a gun and not be happy with it and I will have to cut grass all summer just to get the money so my mom can get me the shotgun.

So I want a semi or a O/U.

Dave McCracken, our esteemed moderator, is in MD. Get in touch with him. He'll teach you more than you ever wanted to know about how to shoot a scattergun.

Naw, you don't want Steve. Steve lives in Georgia (I think) and is nothing but a romantic, sentimental philosopher (;)). SURE, he knows a bit about scatterguns, but OH the pain you got to go thru to get it out of him... He'll have you so bumfuzzled you won't know what month of the week it is. It's not worth it man, it's just not worth it...

You want Dave McCracken. He's a manly man who doesn't get into all that mushy, touchy-feely stuff. :)

RICKY, You can get a new Stoeger Condor over and under at Wal Mart or your local gun shop for $399:
Stoeger Item # 31030, 28" barrel, A-Grade wood, 12Ga, Screw-in chokes, 44"overall length, 7.4 lbs, $399 MSRP

Ricky, I shoot at Prince George's Trap and Skeet Center on Good Luck Road near Beltsville. I am usually there on Fridays. I've gotten maybe 30 new shotgunners from this BB started there.

If you let me know you're coming I can probably find an 870 around here someplace for you to try.....

"bout an hour. Head North on 50 cross the big bridge to 495/95, AKA DC Beltway and RT 95. Go to 295 and head north about 100 yards to 193. Turn Left at the light and go about 8 lights to Good Luck Rd. Turn left, then right at the first and only light. Go 100 yards and turn left into the grounds.

Look for a big ol' guy with a grin and a grey Cherokee. Or ask at the clubhouse. I'm known. Should be there this Friday from 1030 AM or so.
