hey I just purchased a Ranger break action 12 gauge shotgun for $50. The only identification on the shotgun is Ranger and the serial #486 could someone please tell me any additional information on this shotgun.

No problem welcome to THR.

I think Texas Ranger single shot was a Stevens made house brand sold by Montgomery Ward. I really don't know for sure so don't take that as a fact more like a best guess.

I think Sears also sold shotguns under the trademark Ranger.

Do you have any pictures?

Sorry that's the best I can do and like I said just my best guess.

Over in the shotgun section there are a lot of good people with a lot more knowledge and experience than me and I'm sure someone will help you out.

Maybe ask the Mods to move for you.

I was pretty sure sears sold some under the name Ranger so I googled it but couldn't find anything and kept looking around until I found this. This may be it, not really sure it's kind of hard to make out the picture but it's from a sears catalog in 1933, when they sold the Ranger brand of shotguns. Anyway I thought it was kinda cool. on sale too $6.69

Well, the "Blue Book" I have says firearms under the "Ranger" name were made by Savage, Stevens, H&R, Winchester and Marlin.

W/O more information that's about as far as I can get.

But, if it is a safe & functional "bang stick", $50 sounds like you did OK.
