You might not need the plug... Mine shoots light loads fine on the stock plug...

A plug being a solution for an under gassed gun is largely myth. If you look at how the gas system works you'll understand why,

The man who designed the original plug, gunfixer, had the following to say concerning after market plugs and under gassed guns:

This is nothing new, as no plug will make up for an undergassed gun.

I would not buy the stock you have linked to. Those tapco folders are not very good stocks and tend not to hold up even on a rifle. A 12 gauge will be even harder on them. If you want a folder there are much better, albeit more expensive, options. If you want a folder the easiest option for a stock that wont be a piece of junk, or (IMHO) look ridiculous, is to buy an internal block (available at CSS), cut the tang, and then attach one of the various folder mechanisms to the block and then attach the stock of your choice to that.

Do your self a favor and get a better stock even if it is just the standard tapco fixed stock.

The other thing that kit does not have that I prefer is a retaining plate. You can hold the FCG in with the wire pictured, or with e clips, but I prefer to use a retaining plate. it is cheap and it is easier.

If I give it a whirl as a short term deal just to have it in the kit, I retain the option to switch out JUST the stock at anytime correct? Without any conversion parts at that point?

Please elaborate? Im that uneducated as of this far. Thanks.

Roperninja: Yes, you can switch out or upgrade the stocks at any time. You won't have to reconvert or anything.

As for plate vs. shepard's crook, basically there are two pins that hold the action together. These pins are fairly loose, but held in place by a bit of wire that passes around grooves on these pins. This 'shepard's crook' is difficult to get into place. The plate replaces this wire and snaps into place easily.

Thanks a bunch for everything! I think im fully equipped to at least get going! Im probably going to make another thread as soon as the conversion kit comes in, itll be a week or so before I order. thanks again!

If you get the plate just be aware that you need to get one specific to the S12. The normal AK ones can be modified but it is much easier just to get the right plate to begin with.

I too am getting a Saiga-12 in the next month. Nice layaway plan. Ive been assembling the parts to convert it before I get the gun. Went with the modified BHO and the retaining plate. Both cost about $27 from Carolina Shooters. Also picked up the 20rd MD arms drum for $91 shipped. Price went up after I bought mine:) Going without the buttstock on mine. Getting a new bolt handle and trigger group next and Im all set.

I never considered getting a new gas plug, after reading all the comments, I just might have to pick one up.

Make sure if you pick up a modified BHO, to notch the lip where the spring sits. Its recommended and makes install easier.

Watch the videos on Carolina Shooter Supply. They go into great detail about converting them.

as has been mentioned, a replacement gas plug it worth it just for the no-tools adjustability. Three hands would be helpful for adjusting the stock plug. I have the V-Plug on mine and it works a treat, easy 1 hand adjustment.

Get on over to the Saiga-12 forum. You'll learn a lot about your new gun, plus there's a lot of really great and helpful folks there willing to share their wealth of knowledge.

I just reused the trigger guard I took off. Came off easily enough that I could just fasten it back on with a pair of screws and nuts.

As for the gas puck. . . a good chunk of people just get them for import reasons. They're one of the easiest bits to replace, and gas puck+magazines is the 4 parts needed for import restrictions.

That said. . . full conversion is superior.
