Went into Scheels a few days ago and examined a High Standard 1911. It looked pretty good and felt really nice in the hand too. (I have short thick(fat!) fingers.)
The current High Standard mil-spec pistols are made in the Philippines by Armscor --same as the RIA 1911 clones. Plenty of folks have good things to say about those. Based on observed prices, the price should be south of $400.
I have one. Bone stock, exept for the Houge grips. Shoots well & is reliable. I don't really use it too much. I keep it as one of my "GoTo" guns in the house. I have about 800 to 1000 or so rounds through it. It would be a good base gun for a DIY project. So far I have resisted the urge to modify my High Standard 1911................................That's a hard thing for me to do! :banghead::banghead::banghead:
I have one. About 5 to 700 rounds through it so far. I'm not saying that all HS 1911's will do this, but, mine will shoot ANYTHING I feed it as long as I use Wilson 47 mags. I've never had a problem with at all (knock on wood). Mine is bone stock, minus a different set of grips and the Wilson mags. I love this pistol!
