High Standard Trigger Question

I just bought what what appears to be a never before shot Citation Supermatic 104 (Hamden model). I took it to the range today and the first shot always has about a 2.5 pound trigger pull. After the first shot, it may be a 2.5 pull or about a 10 pound pull. It intermittently goes from 2.5 to 10 pounds after the first shot. Any suggestions?

I would suspect the sear bar #44 is hanging up, and needs cleaned and lubed.

Probably old dried oil, or no oil at all in a gun that old.

I would take the grips off and give it a good cleaning with WD-40 or Gun Scrubber spray and then re-oil anything that moves.
And then see what it does.

PS: Be especially careful you don't loose the slide stop spring part #73 when the grips are off.
It's too tiny to see if you drop it.

Thanks for the tip. I thought it might be a cleaning issue because it was intermittent. I gave it a field strip cleaning but have not taken it down completely. Thanks for the diagram!

You DO NOT want to take it down completely!

BTDT for two years in Army AMU.

The H-S Citation/Trophy/Victor models have more tiny mystery springs and other stuff nobody can identify then a bag full of homemade hippie granola.

Just take the grips off and hose it out like I said.

If that doesn't fix it, send it to Texsas and let them sort it out.

You are correct. I opened it up and the sear bar spring flew out and I cannot locate it. I did not know what part flew out so I took out another Citation I have to check what part is missing and the sear bar spring came loose on that one as well(but I have it). Now both triggers will not engage. Live and learn!

Also, Avoid the High/Hyper velocity rounds, can crack the frame if you aren't careful on the older ones.

Those springs are a PAIN. we had a slight issue with our M-Frame one, was double/triple firing at times. Broken spring, All fixed, but startling as hell when it happened. I don't do more than take the slide and barrel (CAREFULLY) off, and wipe it down.

Still my favorite .22, incredibly accurate little pistol, trigger is insanely light. Still considering order the long barrel for kicks.

I have the two mentioned High Standard pistols and you are right, they are extremely accurate with great triggers. I would never trade them. They will always be more accurate than me. Since they were manufactured in 1974 and 1976, they are probably overdue for an overhaul from the manufacturer.

RC is probably right... But it is possible the hammer is following down after the first shot to the safety notch, and if that happens you'll get a trigger pull as described.
