First off I know suicide is not something to joke about but thats not really what the joke was about.

Yesterday me and two friends, ron and cory, went to the range. Ron just bought a new rifle before thanksgiving, a mossberg 817 (I think that is the right model) in .17 for his kids to plink around with. When we went on thanksgiving he took it out we couldn't even keep all the shots on paper at 25 yards and rarely even hit the paper at longer shots. We thought it was maybe the scope so we put a new one on and went out yesterday and wouldn't you know same thing. He moped around the range all day while we shot our guns and teased him relentlessly about what a POS his riffle was, When we got back to town went to academy because cory wanted to pick up a benelli nova. Ron started talking to the salesman as cory was fillling out his paper work and they basically said the same thing I said, send it to mossberg. He left looking like his dog had just died and thats when cory said it. He turned to the salesman and said

"He looks like he is gonna shoot himself but im not worried, if he uses his riffle he will just miss."

We laughed so hard even the manager came over to make sure everything was allright.

Deserves Another Comment...

In the summer of 1974, I was shooting on the pistol team for the 11th Naval District Marine Corps Reserve Pistol team at the Reserve Nationals at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.

One of the other competitors (from New York, as I recall) was having a bad day. He was looking at his slow fire target and said, "If I keep shooting this bad, I'm going to save a round for myself!"

I looked over his shoulder at the target and said, "Better save a magazine."

Happily, everyone laughed...

reminds me of a thread here where someone wondered if people would buy used guns that were sold because they were used in a suicide.

some of the quotes were: "at least you'll know it works" or "it most likely had a very low round count, so you're getting a stellar deal"

you might want to check and see if it is chambered for 22lr, just in case, you know.
... or .22 Mag.

A .17 HMR wouldn't chamber in a .22 LR chamber.

I had the same thought on the severe inaccuracy problem. I've seen odder things than a manufacturer installing the wrong barrel on a particular model.
