I feel your pain.

I shot a relatives hi power and fell in love.

Im saving up for one at the moment.

Im going to go the whole nine yards and buy one brand new (a mark3) for 749.99.

I dont know if thats a good price or not but thats all i can find at the moment.

Be patient. I picked up my last one with a few slight mods for $550. It is MKIII bright blue with standard sights.

Get the real deal. Current production FMs are not as good as they used to be. The CD is not longer being produced. Stick with the original and you will be pleased.

Biggiesmalls:

Is it true that if you look in a mirror and say your namesake 3 times; that Biggiesmalls will appear w/ a pistol and try to bust a cap in your @$$?

This was on an episode of a popular TV show...so...it must be true? ;)

this is true, ultramag. i blame southpark for spreading this previously well-kept secret, but at least now i can do ftf sales without paying for shipping and ffl:)

Help me out with etiquette...

...there is a fellow on another forum, related to Texas CHL discussions, who has a Highpower for sale and wants $575. He is in Houston. I do not know him but others on that forum seem to think he is a good guy.

Is it out-of-bounds to mention the name of that Forum here? I don't need to be breaking any rules.

Regards,
Andrew

I see you are in Austin, Lubbock here.

Texas, where men are men, and women are glad of it!

NGIB:
I just picked up a stepped slide FM (Argentine) Hi Power and I think I'm going to like it. It doesn't have the finish of an FN but appears to be tight and well built. If I wasn't going out of town tomorrow I'd have it at the range giving it a try...

I have an FM, and I love it. The FM doesn't have the "glow" of an FN, but it's a nice piece.

Argentina's FM (not FN) is no longer exporting its clones to the US.

Which royally torques me. They are great guns.

Current production FMs are not as good as they used to be.

I disagree. They certainly don't look as nice, but the last one I had (bought new about a year ago) was an excellent gun. I kick myself for ever getting rid of it. It was the newest one, the M95 Classic, with the MkIII firing pin safety.

I DO agree that the best ones out there are the FN/Browning real deal... I have 3, and I'm always on the lookout for more, so you could say that I'm sold on them. But those FMs were sure nice for beaters.

Wes

EDIT: Here is my FN and one of my Brownings, with my lamented FM M95. *sigh*

I am not saying the FM is bad. I am saying that they are not as nice as they used to be. Just like older BHPs from Belgium are nicer. Its hard to tell from my crappy pics that this thing is gloss blue.

Like this nicely upgraded 1972 version

I've had both the FM and a Belgian HP. The FM cycled everything that went through it just fine, it had zero problems. My only heartburn with it was the sights were not adjustable whatsoever. I got a used Belgian HP with adjustable rear sight off gunbroker for right around $500, and I love it. Wait and look around.

BHP

Ive always been a fan of the BHP never owned one. I was always impressed with the look. Mag capacity, Maybe time to trade a polymer piece for a classic!

The T series guns (the serial number begins with a T) were made prior to 1970.
They are considered to have superior finishes on them.
Following 1970 the guns were serial numbered with the year followed by a C followed by a number. i.e. 71C12345. In this example meaning that 12,345 had been produced in 1971.
Adjustable sights were offered with these guns.
Around 1977 Browning changed the serial number to 245 followed by the production year in an alpha representation. 245RR12345 245 meaning commercial production 215 was military (I believe) and RR meaning 77 or 1977. See the Browning web page for a breakdown.
Around this same time Browning put in heavier main(hammer) springs 32 lbs versus the former 26 lb springs to better handle hot European ammo.
Around 1983 the Mark II was introduced later followed by the Mark III.
Someone else will have to help me with the exact diffs and dates. Final assembly was done in Portugal. The frames changed from forged to a stronger cast frame, 40 cal was available, available ambi safties, different ramped barrel to better handle hollow points, dot sights and the Mark III added a firing pin block.

Detailed knowledge like that is why I love THR. :)
There's always a better than good chance somebody knows more than you ever thought to ask on any given gun-related topic. Thanks.
