Going hog hunting on a WMA in Florida and after deer season only shotguns or rimfires are permitted. What buckshot size would be preferred to bring home the bacon?

why not rifled slugs thru a smooth bore , they have been knocking down deer for a long time. I have paper plate size POI at fifty yards, out of any twelve gauge I own .

Might be a solution. I have slug rounds for my 20 ga. I have buckshot in 00 and #1 buck for my 12 and #3 for my 20, all 2 3/4". I've always used a rifle or handgun for critters other than birds.

I would go out and try a couple of those twenty gauge slugs at a target.
shot a water jug it's impressive

Slug through a rifled barrel first.
Rifled slug through a smoothbore second
Buckshot as a last resort

Slugs are going to be serious hog medicine. Find one that shoots accurately out of your gun and go put some bacon on the ground.

3" foster slugs via smooth bore are deadly accurate. Even out to one-hundred yards.
Shoot through modified or open cylinder choke. Don't shoot slugs through a barrel that is threaded for chokes without a choke.

Not just slugs, but HARD slugs (not Foster type). Brenneke or Dixie. Don't know if Federal is making their new deep penetration slug in 20 gauge or not, yet. Brenneke make the KO slugs in 20 gauge now, if you can find them. I've always found them to be accurate in any shotgun I've tried them with - and the price is usually not too bad.
