So I just ordered one of these (Ruger Redhawk Talo edition, 2.75"), and though it'll be a bit of a BBQ gun for me, I'd still like the option of using it as a carry piece, so I'm looking for suggestions for a belt holster - IWB or OWB.
I'm not sure if a holster for the SRH Alaskan would fit, does anybody know if it's similar enough? or maybe if it's similar enough to a 629 snubbie?

I'm not much of a Ruger revolver guy, but I suspect a 2.75" barreled Redhawk is somewhat of an oddity. Whatever you get will probably require some conversation with the holster maker to verify they cover that gun.

In any case, a couple of makers that are pretty popular with the Ruger revolver owners are ...

Lobo Gun Leather http://www.lobogunleather.com

Simply Rugged http://www.simplyrugged.com

On the other hand, when you say "BBQ", some of the more "showy" holster makers are …

Tucker Gun Leather http://www.tuckergunleather.com

Pure Kustom http://www.purekustom.com

Cotton's Custom Leather http://www.tex45.com

Perhaps you'd like an exotic skin holster from Andrews Custom Leather http://www.andrewsleather.com/exotic/exoticindex.html

I highly recommend Tucker gunleather. I have the HF-2 for my p229R and it is a fantastic holster. It will require a wait but, it is well worth it and Rob is a great guy to work with.

Thanks for the suggestions, fellas. I was hoping to avoid the cost of a custom holster, but it might be worth a few extra bucks ... I see that Simply Rugged has a 2.75" RH option - that may be the way to go, but I'll check out the others as well.

Should fit anything designed for the Alaskan.

Andrews makes nice holsters but his exotic prices are outrageous.

If CraigC is right that it will fit anything that holds the Alaskan then you should have no trouble. MidwayUSA turns up three, from an Uncle Mike's nylon flap holster for $18 up to a Galco leather holster witha retention strap for $75. I am sure that there are many more. You're a brave man, I am not sure that I'd want to shoot a .44 mag with those grips, no matter how pretty they are. ;-)

I'll take it to the next gun show and see if the Galco vendor has a holster for the Alaskan to test fit. That would definitely enhance my options.
@Owlnmole, the RH is still a pretty good size hunk of metal, so I think I'll be fine, though I'll probably wear gloves to shoot at the range. What would scare me is shooting magnum loads from a S&W 329, which weighs like half what the RH does! In any case, I'll throw up a quick range report once I get to shoot it.

Next time you go to your local Gun Show >That is if you have one. Bring your weapon .
Always venders there selling holsters. Plus, they "fit" them while you stand around. That way, no guessing! You get the right one.

Not sure that what will fit the Alaskan will fit the Redhawk. The Alaskan is based on the Super Redhawk. The frames and cylinders are somewhat different. Check first.

The cylinders are interchangeable, they are identical right down to the part numbers. The frame is the same except the extension, which has little effect on holster fit.
