When and Where?

It depends on what time of day it is and where I happen to be...Day: usually a Taurus Millennium Pro 45...Night: a Springfield XD 45 with night-lite and laser. Night outside: Mossberg 500, nite-lite and buck-shot along with one of the 45's....

My reach for gun is a S&W 4 inch 357 Mag revolver, but my real defense is making my home less of an attractive target. I leave exterior lights on all night, every night. I never, ever, leave a window open or ajar at night or when I am not home. I have a monitored alarm system and a very visible sign announcing this to anyone approaching my home. I have two dogs that won't hurt a squirrel but bark pretty well when someone approaches my door. And I don't open the door to strangers that I am not expecting. The real key action is make the bad guys pick another house to break-in to, rather than having a gunfight after they break in.

^^^ THIS !!! An ounce of prevention, is worth a mega-ton of cure.

(It also works when nobody is home.)

One of the things that I've been meaning to do is set up a motion sensor system outside my house and tie it into a sprinkler system so that any motion detected would result in all the sprinkler zone for that particular area activating... Mainly for the 4 legged pests (my neighbor's damn cat that likes to jump on cars and scratch their paint), but it might deter 2 legged pests and make them go to a drier target... If not, then I guess I shoot towards the sloshing sound... <grin>

LMAO is that a Roman Gladius?!
Not a bad option if one insists on an edged weapon indoors.
Much like a tee-bat is superior to a full-size baseball bat in a tight spot, that short stabby heavy blade will be much more effective indoors than a full length affair.

I have a real problem here.

On the night stand next to my side of the bed are a Tokarev, CZ82 and Skky cpx. Between the bed and the night stand is a Charles Daly Tactical. Problem is that I have 00 buckshot in the shotgun, just too liablel to kill the intruder; the pistols are loaded with FMJ which according to the folks that chat on forums. penetrates too much, especially the Tokarev. Funny thing though I will expect and rely on the FMJ to reliably feed, fire and eject. And I have decided the advocates of shot placement and penetration are correct that these elements are the most effective. How many bystanders get wounded by these overpenetrating bullets?

High capacity 45acp to begin the festivities. It should get me back to the semi auto 12ga. anyway.
The Roman Gladius, Lulu and the rest of it are just to fight my way back to the .380 I should have been carrying in the first place...

There is a 12 ga. SxS, double trigger on a rack next to the bed with a 00 buck in one side and a #4 buck in the other. When I fire both barrel (at the same time), I drop it and grab the AK with a 40 rd. banana of mixed loads (HP/FMJ/SP). :what: There's a .38 in a drawer on the other side of the bed and my guncase beyond the foot of the bed.
I don't leave and neither do they. At least, not under their own power.

....if you are not willing to kill in defense of your life, why do you keep a gun loaded in your house?

I don't want to have to shoot anyone, but if I have to, I am going to shoot to stop and death is a likely result when dealing with firearms. If you don't want to worry about killing someone get a taser or pepper spray

You probably won't kill anyone with a pepper spray, but statistics have shown that this is not necessarily the case with a taser. A taser is NOT a "non-lethal" device. At best, it is a "not usually lethal" device.

Okay I know a taser has a very small chance that it will kill, however, since he doesn't want the "liability" of killing someone in defense it is about the best alternative he can get.

But the bottom line is, if an intruder has a gun and you are not willing to accept the fact that you might have to kill him/her.....even if you have a gun, chances are you will lose (and possibly die yourself) because you might hesitate to shoot
