I feel your pain. My first Christmas with my wife she asked me what I wanted, I told her hunting stuff. She bought me a Ninto, in her defense it did have duck hunting. She has gotten better in these past 26 years.LOL

Umm...

I'd hate to be around you guys if you really had something to gripe about.

Les

I would give anything to hear my wife ask me that question and I sure wouldn't gripe about it. My wife passed away 3yrs ago. We had been married 40yrs. So enjoy the time you have to spend with her and be Thankful that she cares enough to ask what you would like.

I think the best approach is to take your spouse to the store/gunshop, find something you like (and within your price range), have your spouse pay for it, and then act surprised on your Birthday/Anniversary/Christmas Day. Helps eliminate the miscommunication and can prevent gift buying gaffes.

Your "gift" is that she supports your hobby instead of hassling you about it. Be happy with anything she gets you, or buy it "together". I know what you mean, as my tastes in guns or accessories is very specific, but I have always been happy with a holster/belt combo that I couldn't afford but told her about, and later we collaborated on it together at Christmas. It was an early gift in our marriage, and I cherish it.

I usually tell her that she knows darned well what I want, and it has nothing to do with firearms......:D

My current wife buys her guns. I buy my own.

Once I bought her a nice Berretta 20 Gauge (Ducks Unlimited) and while she liked it, she politely informed me that she would prefer to pick out my own. I understand that sentiment.

My wife just says..."You want that? Get it. I'll do without shoes for another six months. There will be snow soon, so I won't go out too often." (She got this one from my mother.)

Nothing worse than asking for something you know nothing about. I asked for Boisie Bears once. The Hallmark shop had a good time with me that time. It was actually Boyd's Bear my wife was hinting at.

Write it down on a list. List the exact information, phone number and possibly fill out an order form (even if self made) from the gun shop, and supply a mailing envelope. If the shop wants the sale, they can computer generate a form and if you are a regular customer, they'll know who it is for..

Do this for several items and just say...surprise me. Oh, and sometimes numbering the hierarchy helps.

Last week for my birthday, my wife surprised me with a trip to my favorite gunstore. I came home with a barely used S&W 638-3.

When the holidays come around my wife and I e-mail links to the specific items that we want, so that we don't have to worry about getting somethig that is close, but no cigar.

My current wife...

She has been my current wife for 20 odd years (some odder than others).

I just like to be accurate and keep my options open.

As to the OP, I used to drop hints about what I wanted.

Did she ever get it for me?

NOOOOOOOOOOOOO

every Christmas, ever Birthday "what do you want" and I would tell her.

Did I ever get sabrina ferrili...NOOOOOOOOOOO

So obviously I am not going to bother asking for a gun.

And she can buy her own too!

Throughout the year I tell my wife on a daily basis "Hey I want a....." This usually changes once a month to a new item.

The funny thing is when the holidays/birthday/anniversary comes around and I get a neck tie or something the similar and she gets the *** look. She replies with "you are so hard to shop for."

My question is how is that possible? I have given you around 5 million ideas of what i wanted all you had to do was pick one.

But heaven forbid if i dont get the earings she has been saying she would like or the new pots and pans shes been hinting at.

Just my little rant.

On a positive note, i am getting a Ruger super redhawk in .454/.45 colt. But i have been saving for a while and i won a gift certificate to the shop!

I made it (fairly) clear, early on, for my better half to never buy me a gun or a tool as a gift, without asking me first. My tastes are out of the ordinary for most guys in my age group.

Just the same, I'd prefer a nice (not a showpiece) '57 Bel Air over a sparkling new Corvette.

Yeah, I'm picky and strange. We both know it, and she loves (or maybe just tolerates:p) me in spite of it.
