I've been reloading for a while and usually use Hodgdon's site for double checking data I find in my other reloading manuals. That said, I picked up a Hornady manual as I want to start using SST bullets for deer hunting (loading 243, 250 savage, 7mm-08, and 308). Their book shows load data well below what Hodgdon has for starting loads on their site. My question is, have any of you gone down as far as Hornady shows? I have a ten year old daughter and would love to find a "reduced" load for her to shoot out of my 308. I left the book at the office but if I remember correctly it shows a Varget load at 2300 fps (150 SST). Just looking for feedback and your experiences in using data from Hornady under Hodgdon's "starting loads". Thanks in advance.

I usually use Hornady data and most often begin with the starting load although it looks like you're right with regard to at least the 160 grain FTX. Hmmmm. I don't recall seeing this level of disparity with any other round though. I might try it with the exact bullet but not just another bullet of the same weight. My .02

The Hornady manual is quite often considerably more conservative WRT starting and max loads than either the Lee or Lyman. Seems different companies, or at least their legal departments or publishers, have different levels of liability tolerance.
