Would this bullet be ok with 38 spl and 357? Mainly for the 38 but wondering if I would get much leading with the .357. I'll be useing Universal clays. Thanks for any input as this will be my 1st 38/357 reloads.

It works good with either one, at moderate velocities. It will lead up the barrels of either one if you try to push it with max loads intended for jacketed bullets.

The amount of velocity you can run depends on the bullet. Missouri Bullet Company sells LSWC bullets that are for "magnum velocities". They claim theirs will not lead...With all that said, I've loaded several different brands of LSWC's in .357 using published loading data and never gotten any leading, either.

swaged bullets can't be pushed to magnum velocities. Cast lead bullets can be much harder and can be pushed very fast without leading.

The Hornady SWC is swaged and I don't push them faster than 800-900fps. Push them at full speed in the .357 and you'll get some serious leading.

ok so Don't push past 900 fps and should be good. One more question as these don't have a crimp groove how should I go about putting a crimp on them? Flush or leave a little above the case?

This is the response I got not long ago from their technical inquiries section of their website regarding this exact same question:

"...the roll crimp is place on the side of the bullet at your desired seating depth. The lead is soft so a roll crimp will be fine. Thanks"

I've been using this bullet for a while now to make a great .357 plinking load with Unique. Doesn't take much crimp, I just barely roll the case mouth past straight, right into the side of the bullet. It's been working fine...

Yep, you can crimp anywhere along the knurled surface. I simply load them to the same OAL as cast SWC's and crimp. That way I don't have to adjust my dies between cast and swaged bullets of the same design. I like to use Hornady's swaged SWC hollowpoints.
