How do you shoot?

I shoot for fun/relaxation and to practice for IDPA matches, I try to shoot at least one, and sometimes two a month. I generally carry the pistol I'm competing with, either a Glock 35, or a 1911, so IDPA practice and carry gun practice is the same thing. :) I shoot a lot of .22LR each week as well, a Ruger MKII is great for strong hand weak hand, dot drills etc. hones the fundamentals without breaking the bank, I'm glad I had plenty of .22 ammo on hand before the current shortage hit!

I used to shoot primarily at paper targets or whatever else we took out to shoot at (phonebooks, etc). I recently took a tactical pistol class and realized how just standing there and shooting at targets wouldn't necessarily provide the training I wanted for self defense. Since then, I've been adding more movement, etc into my shooting. We're lucky where we are, we don't have to go to a gun range to practice. We have access to a little piece of land that we're able to setup pretty much any scenario we want. :)

I don't shoot nearly as much as I did 20 years ago ... when I go to the range I take at least one rifle and pistol practice positions and bench but typically shoot only about 100 rounds ... 2-3 times a year

I shoot rifles most often off the hood of my samurai, every three weeks or so. Usually 40-60 center fire rounds per session, mostly 30-30, some .308 & .243 at a measured 100 yards.

We plink with rim fires, both pistols and rifles at cans stacked on wood piles from 30 yards or so, usually a few hundred rounds between my son and myself.

As for center fire pistols, that is almost exclusively 9mm, most from a sig 226, some from a 2022 and a few from a CZ 85. This practice is mostly turtles in the stock tanks, and cactus that I like to split lengthwise from maybe 10-15 yards. It's redneck practice, but I enjoy it. All in all, maybe 500 rounds per month all combined.
