How effective is 45LC out of M6 Scout??

I've been wondering about getting an M6 Scout for some time now.... The main reason is because of it's versatility. Unless I'm mistaken since it's single shot then the rifle barrel, in 22cal. should handle 22short, long, and magnum. And the .410 gage barrel should work with of course, .410 shotgun shells, but also .45 calibur rounds......
My question, aside from asking if my asumptions above are all correct, is how effective this long gun would be with the 45LC??

I maybe mistaken but I do believe that the .45LC is quite a bit bigger than the .410. Perhaps you are thinking about the .41 Magnum? Isn't that the pistol caliber that would work with this barrel?

Didorian, if you haven't already located an M6, good luck. Springfield stopped shipping them about a year ago.

I get emails constantly from people looking for M6 Scouts. I keep them in my "wish list" file, and ask every gun store owner I talk to if they have an M6, or a Colt Commander in .38 Super, or this or that hard to find gun.

There's about a dozen people in my wish list file who want an M6. So far I've been able to locate four, and all of them sold immediately when I emailed the people on my wish list.

All of them were .22 LR/.410. One was stainless, one was parkerized, and two were blued.

I'd keep a close eye on Gunbroker.com, Gunsamerica.com, and Auctionarms.com. The M6's are very rare birds, and the sellers know that.

I think the newer Scouts were set up for the .45LC option. Not sure about the older ones, guess the choke is different on them.

I know my older one isn't marked for 45LC and I wouldn't try it in mine. New ones might be different though.

Didn't know that they had become hard to find. However, I haven't been looking for one though.

The .22 chamber could probably be used for BB and CB caps, shorts. longs, and long rifles. 22 wmr is a different story, as it uses a different sized chamber due to higher energy levels.

I have read that some 410 chambers can accommodate 45 long colt, but the smooth bore would make for pretty miserable accuracy. I would advise against even experimenting with this unless you get good credible information that this gun is suitable for such use.

Some manufactures have made barrels specifically for.410/45 LC. These barrels are usually smooth bore with a screw in choke either with choke or rifling. .410 shotguns are .410, 45LC is .452 not even a close try. .410/45LC barrels are .452+ a bit overbored for .410 but still do able. If not marked .410/.45LC don't even try it.

Basically, you can get .45 barrels specially chambered to handle .410 shotgun shells, but not the other way round - a .410 barrel is typically not chambered for .45 Colt shells, and isn't pressure-tested for them. So, you need to find a barrel which is pressure-tested for .45 Colt but is also chambered for the smaller .410 rounds. These are usually found on Contender-type pistols, but I don't think the M6 was ever made with them.
