ok so i went and filled out the 4473 for my new 10/22 on 4/26... it was delayed :-/

so i wasnt able to make it back there this weekend to buy it... so now im looking at this coming saturday to go make the purchase... how many days is an NCIS check good for?

The NICS check is valid for that gun. If you were delayed, you'll probably get a call back in a few business days from the store saying you cleared and to come pick it up. You'll have to sign and date in Section C on the back page of the form (acknowledging that you're still not a criminal), and then you're done.

27CFR § 478.102(c):

(c) Time limitation on NICS checks. A NICS check conducted in
accordance with paragraph (a) of this section may be relied upon by the
licensee only for use in a single transaction, and for a period not to
exceed 30 calendar days from the date that NICS was initially contacted.
If the transaction is not completed within the 30-day period, the
licensee shall initiate a new NICS check prior to completion of the
transfer.

yeah ive already passed the 3 day mark... the 30day rule was what i was looking for... i am actually surprised it is that long of a time frame...

Took me about 5-wks to get cleared on my first gun as a conditional. Went and got an FBI UPIN file number and now it takes maybe an extra 30-secs on the phone, good to go! At least in Florida they don't keep records of any FDLE or NICS check by law, so you go through the same delay every time, hence my getting the UPIN number.

A UPIN number is what you get when you do a voluntary appeal file (VAF) with the FBI. I believe UPIN stands for Unique Personal Identity Number. Basically fill out a simple form and submit fingerprints just like for a CCW, except it goes direct to FBI. They do their thing and if you check out you get your own UPIN number to place on your gun purchase forms (Line 6 I think). It's great for people that pop conditionals from ID theft, somebody else with name like yours, etc. No messing around on the NICS check then, you get immediate approval and take the gun home!

Here's some info, just call and they will send a packet, or I think you can order online as well.

I wonder why it's only good for a single transaction if they aren't keeping records of your purchases?
