My order was received on the 8th. On the 8th, Orest told someone who wanted to snail-mail an order in from SC that he should be OK so I assume that orders received on the 7th or 8th should be good to go.

The rest of the manufactures go on sale Sept. 1st and there are at least 15,000 of them. I'm sure Orest may jack the prices a bit considering how fast the Inlands sold out. I was involved in many a discussion with folks who were claiming the 499.99 price was too high but no one was able to come up with a carbine that was in comparable shape to a CMP guaranteed, Service Grade carbine for that price on any auction sites. I never saw a carbine in decent shape for any less 700.00

So was I, agreeing with you. Great prices on those M1 Carbine. Just wish i knew for sure they got my order and it was not lost in the mail.

The only comment I would add is these things are expensive!

(not the rifle that is).

First you get your inland (500 and shipping)
Next both war babies books (120 bucks)
Next brass, bullets and dies (280 bucks)
Next mtm cases and c-41 primers (100 bucks)
Next a sling and oiler ($50)
Next a new (old inland) stock and metal parts ($120)
Next 6 mags at $18 a pop in the wrapper
Next a bolt kit and spare bolt ($108)
Next Scott duff's books and other books ($85)
Next a couple of butt pouch and more mags ($78).
Next ?????

Well heck with all that money spent might as well get another Inland!

You're right. I spent 450 already and I don't even have the carbine. I scored 2000 rounds of ammo for 300 dollars. 50 dollars for 2 spring kits and a couple slings and oilers. I got the cheap-o sling and oil combos. 100 dollars for 10- 15 round mags. I bought this stuff months ago when I first heard CMP was going to get Carbines. The prices have risen since. Wideners had Wolf for 148per thousand but raised the price to 190 or so shortly after I bought mine.

I doubt you'll need a stock or metal, these are service grade weapons and should be good to go after a cleaning.

I'll forgo the books as well. I can usually find what info I'm after on the net.

I Express-mailed my order on the 9th and it was delivered on the 11th. I had asked Orest over on the CMP Fourm if I would be in time and he said I should be OK. Today is the cut-off day and it's hard to say if they will take anymore orders. With only a few people to do the work in each of the sections , I would bet that it will be July before things are caught up.

From what I have read over there, it looks like the percentage of carbines that are being rejected from the "Service Grade" classification is slightly higher than originally expected.

I received my first e-mail on 5/1 stating that my order had been received. I never received a second e-mail but when checking the e-store on the 15th saw that my order had been posted the 14th and was due to be delivered on the 16th. Weather delays meant I didn't get it until the 17th.

The stock on mine can best be described a wierd. Not in it's configuration or anything like that, but in it's finish. It is a FAT marked replacement stock with very few significant dings or scratches. The wierd thing it that it is really, really smooth and the finish looks like one of those boxes that was left in a store window too long and all the writing faded. It just appears to be faded out.

It has a 570XXX serial number and the hang tag is marked "Inland 7-43" and "G-3". It has the bayonet lug barrel band, and has no problems with holding an empty 30rd mag. (I read somewhere that a different mag catch might be needed for these.) The metal and bore all look good with no rust, pitting, scratches, etc. The trigger group is brown. I've pretty much decided that there is no downside to refinishing the stock so we'll tackle that at some future point.

Another interesting thing is that it is both shorter and lighter than my 10/22 carbine.

Oh yeah, it also has the type 2 sliding ramp rear sight.

The stock was a light colored pot belly with no cartouche but it did have the letters "SA" (Springfield armory?) Overall it was well worth the money

DMK - I read somewhere on the CMP forums that they received 3000 orders on the first day. They just finished going through those last Thursday or so. They are shipping 100 carbines/day. Basically they took all the authorized requests from day 1, put them into a "cement mixer", mix them up and then each day draw the 100 "winners". Once they have completed that they will dump day 2 into the mixer and start again.

WOO HOO, just got the e-mail, mine will be here Monday morning.

Hey, I have a question. The ATF regs for C&R say: "All Original military bolt action and semiautomatic rifles mfd. between 1899 and 1946."
This is from the 2001 list and regs. I thought it was basically, manufactured more than 50 years ago. This would seem to be 55 years ago. If it is 50 years ago, why put a specific date in that reg?

So, does that mean if the carbine was manufactured after 1947 I do NOT have to list it into my C&R log? I don't believe that.

I sent my carbine order in the 14th of May, so it should have arrived by the 18th. I know that it will be late July/Aug before I get mine, but i didn't think that they would run out of Inlands so fast!

Supposedly, they had 12,000 Inlands with a 20% reject rate on making Service Grade. CMP is retaining the rejects for now to use as parts and should offer a Rack Grade Inland in 08.

Orest has already said the price for the Rack Grade will not be lower and says he's he's confident that every order sent in by the 5-18 cut-off will be filled.

They must still be working on the day 1 letters in that mixer, because my order just showed up in my account on the E-store. [sigh of relief] :)
