How many think.....

I don't see the purpose. .223 outperforms the .17HMR and is cheaper anyhow.

Unless you care about the noise your gun makes, I think it would only be a waste of money.

Yeah....but don't you think it would be a fun waste of money.

You could have an outfit that would be able to be an understudy,as well as save your hearing.

Save my hearing? I never even use hearing protection if I am just shooting one of my ARs in .223 it is a quite round especially when I use my DPMS that has a muzzlebrake.

I've never been a fan of .17 in any flavor except as a .177 pellet in my airgun. I have trouble enough finding the little holes .223 and .22 mag make in my targets.

However, every time I see someone shooting a .17 gun at the range, they always make tiny little groups. With a good barrel and quality assembly, an AR can be an accurate platform too. I suppose if you're a big Black Rifle fan and a big .17 fan, it could be a nice combination for you.

Ow! You make my ears bleed just saying that. :uhoh:

You know what my father who retired from the army would have to say about that.....

WHAT! speak up

Not to be a safety nazi Meta, but trust me, just because your ears don't hurt while you shoot, your still doing damage. My own hearing is about half-crap because of time spent when I was younger not paying enough attention to hearing protection.

TimboKhan, I use hearing protection when I am in the forest or when I am in other enclosed areas but when I just go plinking up in the foothills it is so wide and open that unless the .223 is pointed in my direction, it is just a little "peet"-type noise. I have a really excellent muzzlebrake on my rifle and its advertised to bring the sound down to 115DB.

I've been doing it almost every weekend with my buddy this whole summer and my sense of balance is fine, and my sense of hearing acute. Signs that show I am not currently damaging my ears by my shooting pracitices.

Basicly I think it would be a good match up,I mean the .17HMR does look like a smaller cuz' to the .223/5.56x45mm round.

It's just my dream rimfire rifle.

I would love to have one in the A2 config. (and yes it would be fine if they even had a forward assist for it)

Sorry for the hijack, but I'm interested in the make and model of this muzzlebrake.

If it's "bringing the sound down to 115db", it's not a muzzlebreak, it's a Suppressor. Illegal to install on a firearm in WA state. Also, generally, muzzlebreaks deflect sound to the sides, so breaks are usually louder than non breaked counterparts which direct sound out.
