How much do YOU shoot?

During good weather, I get out shooting at least once or twice a week. I usually go through a brick of .22 per outing and several hundred rounds of centerfire ammo, along with a lot of shots from the black powder guns. That'd be about 1,000-1,500 a week during good weather, sometimes more. I don't go as often early in the year because it's windy often. I don't usually go during the rains, but it's pretty dry here most of the time. Winters are mild so I shoot mostly all winter. I've never really added it up, but I figure about 50,000 rounds a year, with the majority being rimfire.

I think this will be a lighter year though, due to the increased prices of everything and the fact that I have less time than I did before. I'm also finding myself take only the muzzleloaders more often than I used to, so that'll reduce my round count a lot too. They're so addictive! :)

Counting .22's, I probably shoot 50,000+ rounds a year.

Maybe only 2,000 centerfire, but I shoot 500-1000 rounds of .22 every week, usually twice a week.

As I was reading I was trying to figure out how many rounds I use. I like to take different guns every trip. My Sig 226 9mm goes almost every time, but after that depends on my mood. I use ammo cans to go to the range, and I refill them as they get low. I have no idea how many rounds I use. I think think Nomad says it best.

Nomad, 2nd "If you can keep track... it's not enough. "

Budget restrains make me shoot only 250-300 rounds of .45 or .357/.38sp per session. 9mm is somewhat cheaper so I can shoot another 200 or so. I try to go once per week but in reality it is more like 3 times per month. I am still fairly new at pistol shooting and i still see improvement every time i go shooting but i am sure that i will get to a platform soon and then i'll have to make the hard choice, either spend more on ammo or start reloading with the initial costs for that.

I have to make time to go to the range. If I'm lucky I get there about once every two months or so, and usually I go with somebody else to make it a social event (wife, friend, etc). Shoot about 200-250 rnds and half of those are mine, so I guess that makes about 500-600 rnds a year for me.
Hey, I do what I can.

I really do not have a feel for my average. Before I was married, I went to the range weekly and shot 100 rounds of .45 ACP and 200 rounds of .22 LR. Now my range visits are more infrequent but I shoot more per visit. I now also have my own property on which to shoot and I mostly shoot .22 LR on it. Last week I went through a brick of .22s on my property and a few .40 S&W rounds. A few months in the dead of winter back I went through 700 9x19 rounds in my TargetMaster in two days.

I would guess I shoot 5,000 rounds per year now.

7,800 rounds a year..give or take. Shoot once a week without fail (allowing for a trip or doctor's visit)..more often than not on Tuesday. Put approx. 50 rounds through my three hand guns each week: KAHR P9 9mm /.357 S&W Model 65-3 "K" frame (3-1 ratio .38 spcl to .357) / S&W Model 637-2 .38 spcl

Some guys golf..I shoot. I'm also a Corvette freak..have been since I saw an episode of "Route 66" being shot in Corpus Christi in late '62. They debuted the C-2 ('63 first year on the market) in that episode and I was hooked like a trout.

A lot of guys garage their's to avoid high miles..I can't handle that. I drive mine and enjoy them. Same with my guns. I just love it.

i usually manage to shoot 3-4 times a month. i try going once every weekend. i always shoot 100- 150 rounds through the ruger 22/45, and alternate shooting my HD, truck, and ccw pistols. one weekend take the HD, one weeknd the truck pistol, etc. usually manage about 100 or so rounds with them in a weekend. i enjoy shooting skeet and every now and then break out the win 1300 and brush up with it. usually don't shoot the rifle until hunting season.

I try to get in a solid 2-4 hours of range time per month. The odd thing is that I don't wind up shooting that many actual rounds (at least not that many when compared to a bunch of the folks here).

I guess I'm just kinda slow and deliberate in my technique (or maybe just slow <grin>).

It really varies with the available funds, and whether or not I'm saving up for another gun.

Rimfire: I shoot anywhere from 200 to 600 rounds of .22LR a week, give or take, through pistol and rifle. I don't really keep track of a total. I'd shoot more, but even that gets expensive on my funds. And, I'll unfortunately have to cut back sooner than later as well. Other than that, the only downside of .22LR is that you'll wear your firearms out faster (in terms of length of ownership) than you will with a centerfire, simply due to cost. :p

Centerfire: *snip* as high as 1,500 or as low as 800. at least one case (500) of .223 and one of 7.62x39, and less than 100 in other rifle calibers. Maybe 200-400 centerfire pistol. (Come to think of it, I shoot a lot more ammo than I thought I do. :p)

Reading through this thread, I've had one predominant thought: Jeez, what are you guys, young and single; or old, rich, and retired? How can you spend money like that - not to mention spend that much time shooting/reloading - while being married, let alone with kids?

.22 about 50-100 rounds a week
.222 RM about 100-200 rounds a month
300 WinMag about 40-60 rounds a month
Black Powder about 100 shots a month

So I definetely dont shoot enough... but then again I can barely affoard ammo even with reloading... :(

I shoot 2-3 times per week, 300-500 rounds per practice session (I find that as I get better, I can stretch the sessions out longer.) Probably 25k to 30k rounds per year overall.

I'm young and single, though not rich, and aside from my family competition shooting is the most important thing in my life. I shoot or reload instead of watching TV, going out, or generally having a life. :D

You know, that's a good point. I promised myself that my shooting (or any other hobby) would NEVER take time away from my wife and almost 3 kids. When anybody asks what my hobbies are, I tell them "my family."

Every Friday I go to the local indoor range during my lunch hour and shoot. When I get into reloading, I won't do that while the kids are awake/around. Once they are older (oldest is almost 3), then I will take them shooting and do other things WITH them. That will be nice. :D

Priorities. I like guns/shooting, but I love my kids!!

May through September maybe 75 rounds every Wednesday at IDPA, so that's about a thousand. This winter time & money have been short so I've only shot a few times; hoping my work hours will change so I can rejoin the indoor league and blow through a hundred a week all winter.

I'm with Caimlas. I get to the range usually once sometimes twice a month and I probably expend a couple thousand rounds a year; mostly 9mm, 38 special, 45 acp and 22LR. Those of you who shoot in excess of 10K a year - wow! :what:

My dad reloads 45 acp on his Dillion Progressive and I don't think he goes over 3K annually. Where do you folks find the time and money - even if you do reload. The components still add up - especially at that rate. I am impressed.

I do a lot of dry fire with Snap Caps myself. The poorman's shooting practce.

Well, this week I shot 100rds/day M-Th, then 75 today. Normally I can't afford to shoot that much, but when the state is paying for it I jump at the chance. Not to mention it's required to keep my job.

I tried to get some of the brass (we went through about 7k rounds/day total) but I was denied :( It was very hard to leave barrels and barrels full of once fired Federal brass just sitting there. Anybody got a truck?

to the guys questioning how other shoot more than you can do or afford to do, it is about priorities. That and current life situations. A lot of us are at different points in life than others.

For me our kids are grown and on their own for the most part. The wifey and I both work full time and she does not mind what I do with my free time. We have been together near 25 years now. When the kids were young I had to do little league and all that kind of stuff. There was no time for guns then, or money for them either. Now that we have an empty nest life is good in many other ways. We have grandkids and the thing about them is they go to their own home:p I get to play with them whenever I want. Can't wait til they are old enough to shoot with me.:D

My bills are paid up, I have a few acres. I can afford some ammo and have the easy access to shooting whenever I feel like it. I could have chose to buy in a subdivision but held out for a small piece of wooded land. If I chose to booze it up, do drugs, buy sports cars, TV's etc.... then I would not have money to shoot.

But shooting is more fun.:)

Sometimes it is good to be me:neener:

And if it ain't raining tomorrow I am gonna shoot a ton!
