Bought my first handgun last Christmas a 9mm. I am getting a second handgun for Christmas this year. I am looking at a Bersa 380cc so I can carry it. I didn't shoot a lot this year, but am just getting into it. I am wondering if I will shoot encough to want to stay away from the price of 380. I need to stay deeply concealed because of my profession so that is the reason for the 380. So finally the question, How many rounds do you shoot a year?

You'll have folks on this forum that shoot 10,000 rounds per year, and some that might shoot a couple hundred.

I personally try to hit the indoor range near my office once a week. I generally shoot ~100 .22 rounds and 50 or so from whatever centerfire I brought along. I'll also put 1 mag/cylinder through whatever I happen to be CCWing that day.

I do this mainly for stress relief away from the office. Once a month, more or less, I'll spend an afternoon at the range with rifles just for giggles. Depending on my mood, that could be 100 rounds or pushing 1,000 if I'm just messing with .22s

Go 9mm, better, less expsensive to shoot, etc.

...

Couple of thoughts here -

380acp vs 9mm (in the same size gun) and most, including me, are gonna suggest you go with the better, more powerful, 9mm over the 380acp for a number of good reasons..

1. Ammo cost: 9mm is far cheaper and easier to find vs the more expensive 380acp, harder to find, and far less choices in JHP's, size/speed/weight that the 9mm offers.

2. Most 380acp guns look neat because of their size but most use blow-back action which uses a much stiffer/longer return spring vs any 9mm that uses closed breach action and is far far more cleaner to use in-between "needed" cleanings vs the blow-back 380acp's much faster contamination issues/getting dirty quick.

3. Their are just too many fine, small 9mm's available, one being what I have owned now, 3yrs or so, and has just over 7k rounds with no issues, none, and that is the SA EMP SAO 1911 9mm, 9+1.. very small, same size as your 380 Bersa's or Sig P232 380, which I once owned, but sold it, after 1450 rounds due to its constant needs of cleaning and "less loads of 7+1 of 380acp..

4th. I found that the 380acp in the Sig P232 had a harsh, snappy, recoil vs the much softer shooting, less felt recoil of my SA EMP 9mm which affords me, the shooter, far better punch using bigger, heavier, JHPs' with far better accuracy, especially when talking about less recoil being a great benefit when talking about fast follow-up shots "with continued accuracy".. and 2 or 3 rounds more, as well, per load-out/mag.

With all that in mind, I'd suggest you turn away, if not a gun just for fun, but for serious ccw SD needs, and go with many of the Sub-compact 9mms that are available and are much better shooters with more rounds per mag than any 380acp.. especially in the JHP bullets i.e. size/ speed/ weight/ effects vs the very limited 380acp JHP's of which, many, including myself way back when, went with using only FMJ for both, better feed reliability and for better punch/penetration and that was afforded with the 380acp's FMJ flat nose design.. But, the over-all picture favored a better, more powerful, 9mm sub compact design for ccw being the same size of my ex Sig P232 380 and going with the SA EMP 9mm with 124gr JHP's vs 95gr 380's

OMMV,

Luck,

Ls

Between my better half and I,around 10-15,000 depending on how much she shoots in a given year.
Thats why I roll my own.

13 hundred and fifty two....Russ

Sorry thats how many guitar pickers are in Nashville.

7500+ per year.

Combined - rifle, pistol, shotgun - maybe 10K to 12K a year.
Not counting rimfire or muzzleloading

Now that we have a 91-year-old toddler to care for, my father-in-law, I shoot very rarely, and the sessions tend to be short. It doesn't help that I used to shoot too many magnums from N-frame handguns, that were too big for my K/L-frame-sized hands, putting extra strain on the base joint of my thumb, so my cumulative recoil tolerance is less these days.

I used to shoot much more often, sometimes more than once a week.

Dry fire is my friend.

If one owns a .380, I recommend finding a similar weapon in .22 LR, for cheaper cost per round. The .22 LR pistol will pay for itself. Be very attentive to the understudy gun having similar handling characteristics, particularly the trigger stroke. My S&W Model 17, a K-frame revolver, shares handling charactersitics of my carry revolvers, and the all-important trigger stroke is very close to my SIG DAK duty/carry pistols.

Hmmm, Maybe 1,500 rds. of 9mm? Bout 2,000 rds of .22. Couple hundred rds. of .38spl. I'm a better shotgun shooter. Well I do more of it any how. 6,000 rds. at sporting clays.
I'm starting to like shooting handguns more though. Depending on funds, I will probably shoot more handgun this year. I like to keep in practice since I'm always carrying one.

The Bersa might look atractive at it's price point, but if I were you, I'd look at some single stack 9mms.
You will discover that the price of the firearm pails in comparison to what you'll spend in ammo over the course of the life of shooting. You'll find that a lot of 9mms are just as easy to conceal as the 380.
This isn't a suggestion to it, but I carry a Taurus PT709 that hides just as easy as any 380. Cheaper ammo, packs more punch and is probably more fun to shoot.

I don't think I've ever added it all up, but on a yearly basis, I'd estimate about 2,000 rounds of .22LR, and probably another 2,000 rounds of various centerfire rifle and pistol ammo total, in assorted calibres.

50-100 .45 ACP each week. about 500 .22lr. ARRRGHHh I need to get into reloading!!!

Or get a 9mm :D

Not as much as I'd like. I've probably just cleared the 2K mark this year. I roll my own for all of my centerfire stuff. Lately the weather just hasn't been good enough to go shooting for fun. I don't have an indoor range nearby.

I probably put ~10,000 rounds of centerfire pistol and rifle ammunition downrange this year. As others have said, I don't even count .22 anymore!

I would recommend you get a keltec pf-9 and not waste your money on tiny cartridges.

I just got my .45 ACP 4 months ago, have put over 1000 rounds through it. About the same for my .22 Ruger 10/22 that I got 2 weeks ago :D When I'm not offshore or doing something with the wife, I'm at the WMA shooting range or the racetrack, but they only have drag races on the weekend ;)

Hi,
I go to the range once a month. On average I will shoot about 200 rounds. I will shoot 9mm, 40 S&W, 22LR and 38/357. Sometimes I have put over 400 rounds a session depending on ammo availablity and my funds.

I have no idea how many rounds I shoot a year.
I have a couple home ranges and average shooting about 5 days a week.

I only shoot about 100 to 200 rounds at a time but sometimes I shoot a couple times a day.

I can't get to the range as often as I'd like, but when I do, I usually shoot about 300-400 .22, and about 150-200 centerfire, usually a mixture of .38spl, .45lc, and/or 9mm. Lately I've been favoring my .38. That's even cheaper than 9mm when you buy bulk reloads.

3200 rds of 45, which is the only centerfire I keep track of. There was also some 38's, 41 mag, and somewhere between 5-7000 22's.

FWIW

Usually go to the range 2 or3 times a month. I go through about 150 round of 380 and 100 of either 45 or 9 depending on what I brought with me. Both my wife and I love the bersa 380. It is her main CCW and for me I alternate between it and the bersa 45uc. The bersa is a very good, accuate and very reliabe pistol. My wife has well over 2500 thru hers.
