Does anybody have any real information about the arms brokering/dealing business? I'm talking about both importing arms and ammunition into the US and brokering international deals with arms/ammo that never touch US soil.
I work for a large law firm in Las Vegas, which is owned by my father and brother. Their focus is not firearms law, but I am interested in expanding a part of the firm into that field and therefore could run the show under their authority as attorneys. I know about registering with ITAR/DDTC, etc. But is there anybody here that is or knows someone that is a type 8 or 11 FFL importer? I have a BA and am working on my MBA in international trade, have extensive ties to Mexico and Chile and am fluent in Spanish, so naturally I would be interested in trade within or to Central and South American governments and police organizations.

No bashing please. If you think this can't be done just because you could not do it yourself, just move on. Only looking for intelligent/helpful information here from people with experience in the field.

If the arms never touch US soil ... why would you need anything from the US? I would think it would be the countries "in play" that you would need to be concerned with.

Thats how it used to be until good 'ol Bush II signed a referendum reigning in all US arms brokers, or foreign brokers based on US soil. They all fall under ITAR/DDTC now regardless of whether or not they do business in the US.
