How to find info on a Garand?

Go to www.battlerifles.com for some good information. Get Scott Duff's book on the Garand and it will answer just about any question you have. You can find the month and year of Garand manufacture here: http://www.jouster.com/serial/assigned.html

And if you plug in your serial number at this page: http://armscollectors.com/srs/lookup_m1.php you may find information about rifles close to the serial number range.

I have a April 1941 Garand (6-digit s/n) that I got from the CMP this spring. It's a SA Service Grade with a Danish VAR barrel. Only have a hundred or so rounds thru it so far but it's getting me 3" groups at 100yds. I'm using Korean milsurp stuff with the PS headstamp so it's not corrosive. What is the difference between a garand and a BM59. I have a BM59 is there a place to find out about these rifles?

The first BM-59s started out as M1 rifle receivers, converted to 7.62 NATO and made selective fire. Later new receivers were made in Italy and several versions were made for the Italian army. Still later, some semi-auto versions were imported into the U.S. under the BM-62 model number, the change being necessitated by a BATF ruling that the BM-59 was, by definition, a machinegun.

The BM-59 was, in brief, the Italian version of the M14.
