Ruger 10/22 mods
Hi, I tricked out My first 10/22 SS reciever I bought used at a gunshow, I say reciever because that was the only part I kept original on the rifle. Fun to shoot but got boring as it was heavy and I only shot it at the bench. Really was more fun to build than shoot so I sold it off. Still shot .22lr but went with a CZ American . Then last year My B-I-L wants to sell His 1967 10/22 He got as a boy and I got it for $120 . Walnut stock was nasty as was the metal because it spent all those years as a tool. I soaked the metal in a batch of Ed's Red Gun Oil I made up for a few days and took some Scratch X to the stock ( got all the advice from Rimfirecentral ) then started appliing Howards wax and feed and that brought the stock back to life ( I have over 25 coats apllied ). The surface rust and grime came off the barrel and reciever, but the trigger assembly, barrel band and metal butt plate were worn to the metal and will require painting down the road. Took My dremel to the Bolt release and ground the point from the heart shaped void to make it auto release ( insted of replacing with aftermarket, same effect just cheaper ). Took apart both magazines and cleaned and reset the spring ( came with 2 original slotted magazines from the factory ). Shoots great and I really regret not taking a before photo as it looked like they would not have wanted it to shoot gators on that show " Swamp People " ! LOL . Also down the road I may get a aftermarket hammer, but this rifle has had thousands down the tube and the trigger isn't that bad for plinking or tree rats.......WVleo
