How young is too young?

Is this toddler too young to shoot?

  • Yep, he doesn't appreciate what he is doing, so it had questionable value to the kid.

Do you want to raise other peoples' children?

Then let the parents raise their own kids.

(If you do want to raise other peoples' kids, start a day-care or get out of my "free country".) :p

Girlfriend has a 7, almost 8 year old...

Little bugger is dangerous.

Tried him with various toys, including a red ryder. He ain't got the red ryder anymore.

May try training him again when he hits puberty. Or college....

I hope in your "free country" that freedom of speech is still allowed. It is his kid, and he can do as he sees fit, but I'm also allowed to comment as I see fit.

^^ +1

The origional poster ASKED what we thought. I replied and got a non-THR comment about compromising with the anti's. (a well thought out, very logical comment I might add :barf:)

What is it with people on this forum thinking they are the only ones allowed to freely speak their mind when all of us were asked to do so?

Ok, one thought, sorta what if....

He finds dad's gun out an he picks it up an pulls the trigger.......

He doesnt know how to make the gun safe, only that if I squeeeze real hard like daddy said, it go bang.... Looks like a possible accident waiting to happen....

8-9 yrs old i think is a good starting age. with a watermelon as a target. (visual corelation to a human body it makes a mess)

My 3.76389 cents worth. (price adjusted to todays value of copper)

8 or 9? Why wait til they're half grown? A well mannered, well behaved youngster is certainly capable of handling appropriately sized firearms and power tools. And firecrackers.

I still haven't gotten over the do-gooders banning firecrackers and bottle rockets. They only sting for a little while if they go off in your hand. The secret is NEVER wrap your fingers around one, always throw with an open palm. And of course, be careful, they'll put your eye out as fast as a poke with a sharp pencil.

I guess the world has changed. Now they start kids off on T-ball instead of throwing them the hard stuff and letting them learn to hit it. Okay, so they get hit by the pitch a few times, it doesn't hurt that much.

Until a child can wear hearing and eye protection that fits it's not appropriate to take them shooting.

No-----No-----No !

If the youngster isn't old enough to understand the rules of gun safety, or the consequences of not following the rules, simply stated, he is not old enough to have his/her hand on a gun.
Teaching the young to shoot safely is a great thing.....BUT.....be sure the hands can handle the task.

I think the kid is a little young. He's basically standing there trying to figure out what's going on, while daddy does everything else. I'd say he needs another year or two before trigger time would mean anything.
