I'm just getting geared up for loading 9mm and I found a local shop that sells once fired 9mm brass, mixed headstamp collected from a local police firing range with a quoted price of $90/1000. Is this a fair price? I like to support local, so I'd feel comfortable supporting a local vendor if so.

Also, I shoot 3-gun competition and want a 9mm load with as much "oomph" as the 9mm can muster (without pushing limits) for knocking down steel. What are your IDEAL components if there weren't a shortage of powder and what are you forced to use now? I'd prefer the 124 or 147 grain bullets and I'm using a Springfield Armory XDm Competition if anyone has any specific experience with loading for that pistol.

So, whatcha got?

Like you said, powders are hard to find. If you are looking for full power 9mm loads I would look for medium burn rate powders like HS-6, Power Pistol, Longshot, Auto-Comp, AA#5 and the like. I'm a fan of 124gr bullets for most 9mm loading. Follow the load data and find the most accurate load in your pistol.

...a quoted price of $90/1000. Is this a fair price?...

The most I've ever paid for "once fired brass" is $65/1000 and I thought that was excessive. It was in the middle of the shortages so I didn't feel too bad but I would have assumed that by now it would have been cheaper. Is $90/1000 really what it's going for these days?

Keep an eye on the reloading for sale section here on THR. Yeah, $90 is obscene--$30 is more like it. Pay shipping in a Flat Rate box--adds another $12 or so, but you could probably get 2000 or even 3000 in that box.

That's a bit high IMO..I have been paying 26$ for 500 shipping included from oncefiredbrass.com...

Vongh here at THR has really good brass for sale. Shoot him a PM.

Thanks for all of the replies. Looks like I'll be going elsewhere for brass. I had no idea that 9mm once fired was so cheap. I don't mind paying a little more to support local, but I don't want to get robbed.

I don't know if it's processed or not, but I don't care since I just ordered from PSA and it IS cleaned at least. Hard to beat $.04/case after shipping costs when it's cleaned. So, I've got 3000 cases on the way. Thanks again fellas.

Don't Do That !

You're already going to get about 500-1000 pieces of range brass with the 550. Why would you want to spend more money ? Save it for some nice bullets.

;)

They have ranges at some of their stores in SC. That may be where they get some of the brass they sell. I've bought from them in the past. Be sure to check for the occasional .380 piece of brass.

9mm brass is really easy to find, often times it can be had for nothing out of pocket. If you do just a bit more searching, I'm certain you can find it for significantly less, I wouldn't give .09 per for once fired mixed head stamp.

Around here powders are really making a string come back, lots of good full power stuff is on the shelves, prices are decent, and it's not getting cleaned out like it was before.

Yep, I read their warning and will be checking for the .380. Thanks for the heads up.

If you're loading 9mm, you'll find out when you run it up into the sizing die!:cuss:

-Or "overrun" it up into the sizing die I should say-

top brass .com think they have 32.99/1000 cleaned inspected 30% extra. Ive been in my shop looking back at the bags of 9 40 45 to remember were in the world did I get this from! Nice and clean stuff!
