I just began the PA hunter safety course last night. I've always been really into military surplus rifles but never went deer hunting before. I have family and friends who have offered to take me, but I just never got around to taking the course.
To keep this gun related, I wanted to say they really stress firearms safety and the course is a real pleasure (and education) for anyone who is into firearms and might consider hunting down the road.
The instructor (great guy, Vietnam vet) even took time to explain how bad/sloppy hunters give all hunters a bad name, and anti-hunters are usually anti-gun and vice versa, so it is very important for all of us, both firearm owners and hunters, to be good ambassadors to the regular public.
In conclusion- if you were ever considering doing a free hunter safety course, go for it, you can learn a lot and it should be a positive experience.
