Odds are, yes, a license is needed.

The general hunting license is worth buying, even if you don't usually hunt. It's one of the few direct ways to get money to wildlife research and anti-poaching efforts...

My understanding is you need a license to shoot any mammal or fowl in Calif. And licenses are the number one source of funds for wildlife preserve and conservation.

Thanks guy. I really appreciate the information. Now the next questions is...does anyone know any really nice farmers that would let me shoot varmits on their land.

A friend of mine has really got me all worked up to shoot varmits!
