Hypothetical ? Guns mounted in cars?

Even in Texas, rifles and shotguns both being legal to possess loaded and ready in a vehicle, you would not be able to escape the brandishing laws. So any weapon(shotgun/rifle) attatched to your vehicle internally, without the barrel pointing outward towards traffic and pedestrians, should be legal. "SHOULD be legal" being the operative clause there :) . No pistol allowed to even be visible in the car under current Texas law. Or just get a car set up for the firearm to be mountedas you like, then only mount and use it on car on private property, while following all other applicable firearms laws. As far as I know, traffic laws, only apply to vehicles on public roads.

PS- Not a lawyer... Bit I sometimes play onein my imagination:D !!

Still 2 Many Choices!?

Perhaps if you had a turret with a retractable covering over the gun barrel itself, which would hide it from view. Then tell people it's an eco friendly modern air conditioning unit.
Would be very expensive, and the weapon/turret/computer linkage to runn it remotely would be HIDEOUSLY expensive. It would be hard to imagine when you would need to use something like that, but this being America, go for it.
The other is the WWII pintle style mount, similar to the truck mounts of the era. Paint your vehicle olive drab with white stars on the side, put an advertisement for a local war/military musuem on the back, and go for it. They'll think the Mah Deuce is a dummy. But you'd be a dummy for leaving such an insanely expensive item up there anyway.
Or did you simply want a small swing out swivel mount next to your door for a Skorpion?

I have seen on another board pics of a guy in AZ that has a belt-fed 1919a1 installed in the bed of his pickup...looks like a technical from Somalia or Afghanistan.

Technically, a car is already a lethal weapon. So it becomes a philosophical question. When you join a gun and a car, does the gun become part of the car, or does the car become part of the gun? Maybe it becomes an "any other weapon" and you have to register it and pay your tax stamp.

One thing's for sure, you'll actually have an answer to, "where do you put the gas in?"

Acutally instead of a pintle mount/turret I was thinking more of concealed firearms. From the outside the vehicle would look normal. The firearm would fire through thin plastic/paper covering the muzzle or hidden behind the headlights or license plate. I drive a rather large van so there is lots of room

Again this is theoritical discussion on the legalities only, practicalities are not supposed to enter into it. Do not attempt to find logic, rationality or reason on this thread.:neener:

Mason,
Every state I've hunted in, all 3 of them, allow hunters that are handicapped to hunt from cars. So I doubt there is a federal law prohibiting shooting from a car.

I doubt that there is specific laws about mounting hidden guns on vehicles, but you might run afoul of other laws.
I’m thinking carrying a loaded gun in a car, usually a no-no in most states on the east coast.
Carrying a loaded gun within certain distance of a church or school, Montgomery county, MD.
National Parks.
Maybe some kind of “secured firearm” law.

Since none of us are actually wanting to do this, would anyone be opposed to sending one of those fun and polite letters to the ATF to find out? :)

Of course, if any of us ARE wanting to do this, you can simply send your letter a few months after the first and get a different reply. ;)

Well since an M2 beltfed is as cheap as a tommy gun in the nfa land.

Why not have a 50 cal on the jetta.

I've seen a lot of military reinactors who have gun mounts for their vehicles.

Also, collectors of antique and surplus military vehicles often have them as well.

I dunno about legal OR practical, but I've often wanted a spyhunter car. A volkswagon beetle would be a good platform. You put your GPMG under the front hood, since the engine is in the back. Controls on the steering wheel (of course). :D

I'd think something like a technical would be more practical. You only need to bolt it to the truck bed when you need it.

After all this is the legal section. Logic, rationality and reason do not apply in the legal world.

Are there limitations on CCW's being mounted on your person while driving?

If not, then why not have a ... contraption :uhoh: ... developed for your Glock to fit into while driving??

Within reason, if you could have a pistol, rifle or shotgun in your car, why not have it set up ready to use?

I really like the idea of pop-up remote turrets, but maybe scaled down for a hi-cap pistol? :D

Alright now,
if it isn't prohibited, is it legal?

Take this one more hypothetical step... looking at remote operated firearms, aimed with the aid of cameras, etc. ... could you mount them in your residence. too?:D

Why bother house clearing if you could sit in the "safe room", check the cameras and push the red button as needed?
