Yesterday after taking a shower and eating breakfast I strapped on my holster brushed my teeth and was off to run some errands (had to go to the post office to send out some Pay It Forward items and do some other things). After running around to various locations for a few hours it was off to the post office and then back home.

When I arrived at the post office I went to put my revolver in the lock box and was horrified to find that my revolver wasn't on my hip. Panic set in as I tried to figure out whether I dropped it without knowing or I had left it somewhere. After thinking for a few seconds I realized that before I left I strapped on my holster but not my weapon.

Since I have had my permit not one time have I left the house without packing and it suddenly dawned on me what kind of predicament I would have been in if I really needed to draw and just got a handful of empty leather. It took several minutes for the sick feeling in my stomach to go away.

I felt like a total moron!

Well, I have done it myself too, makes me think about starting to drink coffee and maybe not being in such a rush in the morning:D

You walk around your house with an empty holster in the morning? :p

That would be a very unnerving feeling until you realize it's still safe at home

Man, if it's any consolation, I once answered my magazine at the register at 7-11.

Yeah, my phone and my mag carrier are now in very separate places.

Being born in WV and living there until I was 34 years old I understand how some people think us hillbillies ain't none too bright. However just thinking about the look the cashier might have had on their face does make me smile.

BTW, It is good that you carry spare ammo, especially if you travel in the vicinity of Orchard Manor - I had a few hair raising experiences there but that is a story for another time.

Yeah, it was a kodak moment.

Yeah, me too. But they were all in my younger and dumber days.

I once did just that.

Except, I left my gun at home and wore an empty holster, right before going to a chapter meeting of the TFA. I was also Directing the local TFA at that time, and had to do my usual stuff, standing in front of everyone, with an empty holster.

One of our members who is a retired cop (nice guy) got in some good jokes on me. Of course, I haven't forgotten my gun since then...

I've never FORGOTTEN my gun, but i have forgotten to cover my holster after unloading to go to an unarmed victims area. Like I locked my gun in the glove box on campus since i couldn't carry there, and left my IWB hanging out totally exposed. Kind of embarrassing.

Do you strap on your gun and holster together? My hat's off to you, I find it to be pretty cumbersome threading my belt through the loops with all that weight.

Now that's the funniest thing I've read all day.

:D

Well, the expression is "there isn't much more worthless than an unloaded gun"
But I think in the case of an empty holster, you may have surpassed that. At least you could throw an empty gun at someone, but taking time to unbuckle your belt and take off your holster isn't going to work.

Quite funny.

At least your gun was nice and safe at home, TimM. It could have been a lot worse (Gotta look on the bright side ;)).

That does raise an interesting question.. how to CCW at a nudist colony?

If I'm not mistaken this question was brought up on THR awhile back. Or maybe it was in a swimsuit. I'm too lazy to search at the moment.

That's ok, it's illegal to carry a gun in a post office anyway.

Whoops, I re-read the op - I've never seen a lock box in a post office before.
I once dreamed I forgot my pistol but in the dream I also forgot my pants...

You should see the look on my wife's face after hurrying them, I have to
go back inside.
