I have a new grail gun,,,
But I don't think it will be easy to find.

It was a nice day today so I went to the range,,,
I was shooting away and a gentleman set up next to me.

He pulled a wooden case out of a cloth bag,,,
Inside it was a pair of dueling pistols,,,
Or so I thought.

I had heard about these and seen pictures,,,
But this is the first one I have seen up close and personal.

Remington Rolling Block pistol made by Uberti.
And this man had a boxed pair of them.

We need a jealousy smiley face.

His were chambered in .357 Magnum,,,
I Googled them and found they were also chambered in .22 LR, 22 Magnum, and 22 Hornet.

He kindly allowed me to fire a few rounds,,,
I shot 3 rounds of .357 and 3 rounds of .38 Special.

They were heavy but easy to aim,,,
Even with the .357 rounds the recoil was not bad at all.

The pistols were absolutely beautiful,,,
Especially in the presentation case he had for them.

I remember reading about these several years back,,,
I made a half-hearted attempt at finding one,,,
But they were long discontinued,,,
So I shelved the search.

I asked him if he would be interested in selling them,,,
But they were part of his father's collection.

I need these guns like I need a hole in the head,,,
But having actually fired one I am now lusting heavily.

It never ends,,,
There is always,,,
Just one more gun.

Trouble is,,,
I would want a pair. :(

I gotta admit, this is kinda funky-cool !! Back when I was a little kid in the 70's, I somehow got a model kit of a dueling pistol that looked much like this one, I thought it was too cool!!
I have a buddy with an Uberti-built single action revolver, that is as beautifully made as this one is.
By the way, Aarond, with your affinity for dueling pistols, I can't help but wonder if your last name might be "Burr" :D:.

Nope, but that did make me chuckle. ;)

I came by my affinity at an early age,,,
My mom and pop were antique dealers in the 50's-60's.

Back then a lot of what we call treasures,,,
Were just "Grandpa's old rifle" or some unvalued thing.

Mom came home one day with this old box,,,
Inside it were two old percussion pistols.

All of the accessories were missing,,,
But for a few months before they were finally sold,,,
My friends and I would sneak them out and do the ten paces thing.

That was until Mom caught me,,,
Wow, what a whuppin' I got that day.

But there is something supremely elegant,,,
About a boxed set of matching pistols.

This is as close as I have come so far,,,
I'm still working on a better box for them.

I take a lot of friends to the range with me,,,
They always ooh and aah appropriately when I uncase these.

Just one more? See my problem is there's always just like 37 more....... :)

Seriously though, that's a beautiful design. Beautiful doesn't really sum it up. Hope you find at least one if not the pair.

I had one in .22 hornet. I wanted to scope it but it was too much of a hassle and the sights would not adjust to point of aim so it was sold 20 years ago. I wish I had kept it. :(

Just for the sake of historic accuracy:

Proper dueling pistols wouldn't be equipped with sights...it was considered ungentlemanly/unsporting...as the purpose of a duel wasn't always to kill your opponent

Check out the Code Duello for proper dueling etiquette and weapons protocol.

Aarond, where did you learn the ,,, thing? I am into linguistics and that quirk fascinates me, I have never seen such a thing and you clearly have a functioning . key. :)

My grail gun...this one with a bunch of money attached to it in the form of a tax stamp, shoulder stock, and a lot better sights than the jacklegged scope mount drilled and tapped into the topstrap which is how it was when it came home.

She was kinda like yours, saw one, shot one, wanted one, was cost prohibitive. I found this one by accident, it's an off brand, and I just made the money work out.
