Last Saturday I went over to a local gun dealer to buy a pound of powder. I came home with the powder, and a Savage Model 11 in 7mm WSM. When I saw the gun in the rack, it still had the original Savage sticker on the forend, albeit somewhat worn from handling. It was sold to me as a used rifle, but with original Savage tags attached to the trigger guard, and in original carton and packing materials. I suspected that it might not have been fired, and when I got it home I rechecked the bore and put a patch through it - dead clean. Checked the tapped receiver scope base holes - factory blue on every thread of all 4 holes. Since the gun has no iron sights, I assume it never had a scope mounted. In other words, it looks like I bought an unfired rifle for $449.
Since Savage does not currently chamber the Model 11 (accutrigger, composite stock, varmint barrel) in 7mm WSM, I'd like to know when the rifle was manufactured. It has a G55XXXX serial number, but I have not been successful at finding a table on the web. Anyone know where I can find current/recent Savage serial info?
