I have shot the following from it successfully:

38 Special 125gr & 158gr
38+P 125gr
95gr, 110gr, 125gr & 158 gr 357 Magnum

After using a hand grip exerciser for several weeks I can shoot this outstanding revolver with a great power to weight advantage. I have set my crimsontrace laser to 15 feet focal point as well.

I have seen post after post on how this revolver (12 oz unloaded , about 15 oz loaded) is a wrist breaker, etc. Out of the box, with the XS site, the CrimsonTrace Laser grips I was surprised how well I could shoot this revolver.

I shoot my Glock 30, Glock 36 45ACP and my Glock 23 40 S&W semiautos very well out to 21 feet and closer, but this little honey in 357 magnum is so easy to hide and carry.and has a big wollope!

do a search for M&p 340 or just look over in the revolver forum for that topic and you'll find a large thread dedicated to the little pocket rocket with a lot of info about ammo choices. Another good thread for a new snubbie owner is "642 club" and "The 642 club part deux." Enjoy.

I just bought one today. I'm thinking of working initially with .38 spl. and working my way up to +p and then magnum. I tend to not be recoil sensitive. To me my G36 is a pussycat. I'll work into the 340 slowly and check out the load recommendations here.

I shoot a scandium framed .40 S&W (4040PD Airlite) seim-auto that folks tend to say is snappy, but it doesn't bother me at all. I'm imagining that the 340 is going to be a heck of a lot more to handle.

I like a challenge.

I didn't know they sold scandium framed semi-auto's. You won't find the revolver to have much snap (up) but you will find it to have plenty of recoil (straight back); that's why most folks say they hurt to shoot. I normally end up with a bruise in the web of my hand from mine when I shoot it and maybe a little sore but it doesn't bother me too bad. My take is that .38 spec. is easy, low grain .38+p is easy, 158 grain .38+p is gettin' there, and .357 magnum is a little much. I stick with 158 grain .38+p. That might change when I get some CTC grips that have rubber molded over the back but right now while there is metal exposed it kills.

Yes, the 4040PD Airlite was their single entry into Scandium seni-autos. It's a grat gun but the price tag at about a grand killed it. I bought mine used but mint for half of that. They are hard to find.

BTW, I just realized that my M&P 340 gets the $50 rebate. In fact, so does my 686 seven shot that I bought in October. Happy days!
