I have had it with Chuck Hagel

Chuck Hagel has been noted for his criticism of the Bush Administration's handling of the War in Iraq. Fair enough, it is the role of Congress to provide a check to the power of the Executive branch. Many times I felt that some of it was not honest criticism but posturing himself for a shot at the White House in 2008. But this quote below has pushed me over the line as far as my suspicions about his intentions.

"And Sen. Chuck Hagel of Nebraska, a Republican and Vietnam war veteran, told The Omaha World-Herald, "If he'd been in the military, he would have learned gun safety.""

As if one has to have been in the military to handle firearms safely. Granted Cheney screwed up big time and shot one of his hunting buddies. There is no excuse for that. Hagel however by saying this is exposing himself to be the opportunist jerk I had come to suspect that he was.

Man I really regret working for the Nebraska Republican Party in '96 when we fought to get him elected.

Hagel more than likely knows that safe gun handling is a set of habits and a state of mind and is not acquired by just attending a training course. He just used this opportunity to take a cheap shot.

Kinda sums up the entire unfortunate incident. "There, but for the grace of God, go I." Safe gun handling has been drummed into all our heads (I Hope) until it's a mantra.

What a nightmare for ALL concerned. My prayers go out to all concerned, especially Mr. Whittington, who said this...

"My family and I are deeply sorry for everything Vice President Cheney and his family have had to deal with," Harry Whittington said in his first comments since being shot on a South Texas ranch six days earlier.

Mr. Whittington seems to sum up my feelings.

A sad reflection on any and everyone who made light of this accident.

A great learning experience for our children and all new and old gun owners, however unfortunate the experience.

I can't wait to vote for someone else in the next primary.

I'll send him a letter letting him know why, too.

It's pretty sad when Ben Nelson is a better Republican than Hagel. BTW, I'm voting against him, too.

I think most all of the politicians are disapointments once they settle into their new life as a "doer of good" and wealth redistributers.

It's gotta be some kind of powerful feeling to set aside your principles and accept the darkside.

On the other hand, that assumes there were principles to begin with.

We have daily disappointments out here in California. Monday Arnold wanted to raise minimum wage $1.00. Today, friday, he wants to raise gas tax, but they came up some other fanciful name for it.

Best thing is vote against Hagel in the primary. Make him do his job.

Now I regret it dearly. He's a cheap suit and a nice haircut. Bah....

This was anything but an accident. Carelessness or negligence are accurate descriptions. Cheney violated two of the four principles of safe gun practices and that doesn't equal accident.

I like Hagel, I agree with his statements, I am glad that some Republicans are finally able to express an independent statement or two... Gives me the feeling that having to agree on every issue and be a "team-player" may not be the measure of American citizenship ---I support the individual over the herd....

I mistakenly voted for him the first time, also, prior to learning that he wasn't really a conservative after all. Chuck Hagel was sent to Nebraska for one reason only: To get himself positioned for a run at the White House at some point in the future. I'm surprised he hasn't taken a wife yet to fill the last square.
