I Need Help and These are My Pickin's

As you can see, everyone has their opinion. Two of the things that you really need to consider are:

1. Which one do you like shooting best? If you don't like shooting it, you won't practice with it. This means that you need to find a comfortable caliber, and a comfortable gun. If you've small hands, you don't want to use a .50 Desert Eagle. If you've got big hands, you don't want to use a a P22.

2. Practice Ammo You need to practice with whatever you purchase. If you're on a tight budget, you may want to get something that's cheap to shoot - like a .22. Now, most people will tell you that a .22 is too small for a self defense gun. If you're going to carry, it's more important that you have a gun than that it's a big gun. Bigger calibers are more likely to stop the attacker, but a .22 is better than nothing.

Also, why are you limiting yourself to those three guns? If you purchase used, from a reputable dealer, you may be able to get a decent gun, within your price range, and still have money left for ammunition.

ALL CAPS ARE ACTUALLY EASIER TO READ

<Dons baseball cap. Big label on the front reads "Font Nerd">

Generally speaking, no, they aren't. Numerous studies have shown that type in all caps, especially body text, is more difficult to read, and increases the amount of time that it takes to read a given selection of text.

Link to one study that dealt with this.

I suppose it's possible for an individual to be immersed in an environment where all caps is the norm, and therefore they become inured to it, but they're definitely the exception, rather than the rule.

Out of your list, I'd pick the CZ. Sigma's have really awful triggers. Ive heard good things about the Tauris, and the Berreta should be OK.

If you look around, you should be able to find a used XD or Glock in your price range. Don't forget about revolvers, S&W model 10's and 60 with 3 or 4 inch barrels are around $150 to $200 used around here.

Good Luck!

What about a used Ruger?

I don't think you get much more bang for the buck then a used Ruger P series.
Not refined or prestigious but it will work every time.

The new Sigma is a good gun but yes its hard getting used to the trigger. Mine has been ultra reliable 1350 shots so far not one hiccup. The trigger on my breaks consitantly BUT!! it is long and heavy otherwise its a great gun. Basiclly a cheap glock.
