I went to a gun show this weekend and was looking at some 1911's. Im not really into auto's ( I love revolvers) but have a thing for older style guns. So
i thought i would add one to my collection, (the list is getting longer) The thing is i know that good 1911's cost alot of $$$$$$$$$$$.
So here's my short list, they have to be under $6OO please no ''you get what you pay for'' If you have any experience with these pistols please let me know.

1. Springfield GI
2. Armscor 1911
3. EAA
4. ROCK Island
5. Taurus pt

Anymore pistols that you guy's can think of would be great .

taurus is a brazilian company that makes a fine product. did you know that all springfield armory 1911s are made in brazil? think about it.

I have experience with the Springfield 1911A1 MilSpec.

It ain't good. Major reliability issues.

The thing is at the factory right now being serviced.

the new para ordnance gi expert is around $500. basically a starting point 1911, i've seen mixed reviews, but para does have a lifetime free repair plan. they don't call it a warranty, but they will repair it for free if something happens.

here's the most in depth review i've seen for it...

edit: i'm in the same boat as you, and i take months to decide on which gun to buy, lol... i ruled out the springfield because i don't like the look of the parkerized finish. another one to consider is the auto ordnance (owned by kahr) 1911. they have a parkerized one for around $500, and a custom stainless one (maybe more match grade components) for around $600.

not really true.

The RIA GI model cost around 350-400 dollars, the Ria tactical will cost you a little more with a few upgrades and you can put them side by side with any of those $$$$$$$$$ 1911 in terms of reliability.

I had a PT1911, and I never had any particular issues with it. I sold it only because I needed some money at the time, but past that I enjoyed it. I really liked the straight-8 sights on it.

New American classic or the New Firestorm by Metro Arms in Philippines Delux should be under 500 and they are great pistols but at present hard to find Please do not confuse this with the old junk Llama Firestorm 1911 from years back.

American Classic II and Firestorm have been available on auction sites like Auction Arms and EBang for about $400 to $430. This depends on whether you get the basic GI model or deluxe with things like beaver tail and extended controls. Made by a Filipino affiliate of ARMSCOR, they are getting generally good reviews.

For a most excellent non 1911 full sized 45, the Smith and Wesson 645/4506 series have hit the same market used. They tend to be police turn ins with some holster scuffing but excellent mechanics. I have one and it is a great gun. They are going for about $400 to 430.
