I need to get a brass catcher IDEAS?

I am starting to get sick of picking up brass from the ground. I did finally get an old drop cloth from a painting buddy and have been using that with some success, but I would like to find something that stands on the ground and catches the brass as it exits the gun. I have seen the small hand held brass catchers, but this is not what I am looking. I do a lot of draw practice and just can't see using one of those contraptions.

Has anyone here ever seen a brass catcher that stands on the ground??

There's a guy on eBay that sells a brass catcher that can be attached to a tripod. It's similar to the ones we use in Bullseye that sit on the bench. Usually has an opening about 18"x18" square with a mesh bag. If you do an internet search for brass catchers, there's a couple of companies out there that make stand up models, but they're not cheap. They have some with bigger "target" areas; kind of a mesh screen that the empties hit and then they fall into a bag that runs across the bottom.

I use the CMM Brass Catcher:

It has a built in height adjustment but you might have to place it on a milk crate to get it up to the height you need.

The CMM is similar to what the fellow sells on eBay, but his is just the upper part; you need to mount it on a tripod. I checked and he doesn't have any listed right now, but it seems like he has one on every week or so. They also sell something similar to the CMM through Champion's Choice but it's strictly for Bullseye.

A buddy uses a PVC kids soccer goal with the back and floor made out of fishing net used for minnows. If your blaster doesn’t chunk them too far, a regular blue tarp helps a lot and easy to layout.

Why not just mock one up out of 1/2" or 3/4" pvc pipe? You could probably get by with not glueing it together. That way it would be "takedown", if you needed that feature. It would be a simple matter to tie-wrap some cheap Wal-mart sheer curtains on it for a catcher/basket. Just guessing, it might cost maybe $20 to put one together? Just depend on how big & fancy you want to get.

Personally when I goto an outdoor range I put down a 3mil PVC tarp. Canvas works too. Just put it under where you are shooting and dump it into a container when you are done. You can shoot on the wet ground and stay dry this way too.

The catcher mentioned in post #5 can save you a lot of $. You can use Sch 40 PVC, or if you want it to be a little more rigid and more resistant to UV rays from the sun, build it with gray colored Sch 80 PVC. It doesn't have to be all that wide and heighth can be such to accomodate standing and firing from the bench.

I have an old 3 piece pole lamp (lamp gone) with a shower curtain ring, about 3’ in diameter, hung from it. I use a plastic tarp over the ring and a stick to push the tarp back to open it up so cases can enter the ring easily for capture and retrieval.

You need two people, a spotter to see where the brass is hitting, then adjust it. Each weapon flings brass in a different place. Works great when adjusted.

I buy brass in the thousands, pick up what I can see easily and to hell with the rest. Take a kid with you, those little guys can out see us, they are closer to the ground and bend better as well. Don't return you empties to teh trays you bought your loaded ammo in. This way you will know you are missing 4 or 6 or whatever. I dump it loose into a pouch, I'm on a need to know basis, I don't need to know that there are three cases on the deck hiding from me.
