Interesting article by Ayoob, his shotgun mentioned in the article piqued my interest. I own a Model 11, and I sure would like to modify it as it is described in the article. Here are some quotes regarding it.

"For close work, he was partial to the Remington Model 11, a clone of the Browning 12 gauge Automatic-5, with an extended magazine."

"A southpaw, Askins liked ambidextrous autoloaders and lever actions for long guns-- the Savage Model 99, the .351 Winchester and the 12 ga. Remington. The latter, he said, was cut to 22 barrel length for him by J. D. Buchanan, who also affixed a full length extended magazine that held eight shells, bringing total capacity to nine rounds."

I don't know about cutting it down, as it is a fixed full choke, and I would like to keep it at full, rather than messing around with all that adding chokes and stuff. But I would like to know if anyone has modified their Model 11 like Askins, and what they thought about it. Also, if anyone has a source, or a how-to on how to add an extended magazine to the model 11, I am all ears.

P.S. If you can't tell, I like old school tactical stuff, fitz revolvers, wood stocks on the long guns, that sort of thing.

I have a 8 round extension for an A5. If the mag tube threads in the receiver are the same you could swap them out and add the A5 mag extension. If not, more than likely the case, then you will have to find someone to make you one.

The one I have is a Choate, you could possibly call them and inquire, ask them to custom make you one, might have to send them your mag cap to match the threads up.

Askins said he knotted a white handkerchief around the muzzle,
They taught us to do the same thing with our M-14's in Basic/AIT.

Tied behind the front sight, it works well enough for goobermint work at close range.

I assume your just trolling, but on the off chance your not, do you have any information that the numerous gunfights Askins describes in his book and other writings did not occur?

One would think after so much time, any questions on that would have been answered, but maybe not, please do tell....

I was told by a shotgun tech @ Brownells that the Model 11 was standard inch pattern thread and the Belgian or Jap Brownings were metric. I do have a +3 tube for 870/1100 that screwed right on the end of my Model 11 with spring and all.

Monolith, I can't speak for the Choate, but it ought to. Mine is the Factory Remington part. Haven't ran it yet though.

Didn't mention, though it should be evident, but you can't use a barrel clamp on that Model 11...

I forgot about that, but you sure are right. that's ok, I wasn't thinking about putting a sling on it anyways, and if I were, it would have to go on the forearm or magazine cap, as that's the only part that doesn't move during firing, right?

Please post if you try this...I have a Model 11 that somebody cut to riot length, and I have been thinking about putting an extension on it for a while.
I have also heard that 870 extensions work. However, I also heard that a spacer is needed...I read that a sling spacer works fine.

Nope, works fine. You guys are killing me, I know where there's an 11 I can borrow indefinitely with a 30" full barrel on it that nobody here needs.

Sure...

The forend had a small split, so I have installed a plastic RamLine forend made for the Auto5. It just dropped in. The buttstock will not fit without altering the Model 11 grip tang.
