Tuesday was my birthday...and I have been wanting a Remington Nylon 66 for at least 5 years but never found the right one. Well, I came across a nice (99%+) Nylon 66MB and bought it.

I paid too much (in my opinion)...$325.

But I figured...what the heck! It's my birthday...it's an almost perfect sample (one 1/16" scratch near the rear site). I had the money (I occasionally like to eat Ramen anyway)...so I bought it.

I do *not* have buyer's regret...it is the perfect woodsbumming rifle, light, fast and more than accurate enough. Bumming around the woods is one of my favorite activities...targets of opportunity, the occasional rabbit or squirrel.

What'cha think?

Shut up and enjoy it or continue to think that I should have shown more restraint?



ps: No...Ruger was *never* on my list of choices...Bill's magazine ban declarations are still stuck in my craw.

Sorry...forgot to upload something for the visual folk! I'll get better pics when I find where my wife put the batteries.

Why is it that the wives always know where they are? :p

I had one for decades. It was my truck gun forever or so it seems. They aren't pretty, but they work and continue to work despite decades of neglect and abuse.

That's a great-looking rifle - congrats!! Make up for lost time and get to shooting!!
 
Nice. I have two nylon 77s and they are my favorite plinkers. I have about 20,000 rounds through one of them, and it shoots like it did the day I bought it in 88. Think I paid 79 bucks for it at Kmart. The other one is older, was my pops. Can't tell from your pic, is that a brown 66 or black?
 
I had similar thoughts a couple of years ago, though it wasn't a Nylon 66. I wound up getting a little semi-auto .22 that I'd wanted since I was a kid.

Make up for lost time and don't worry about it.
 
I bought one not too long ago. It was a 1959 model, and was probably a 95-98% gun. I paid $300.00 for it. Too much? Some people say it was, but there is always someone who knows where you could have gotten it cheaper. I didn't care. I hadn't seen another one that didn't look like it had been run over by a truck in a long time. The rent was paid, my wife and I had our medicine, there was food in the house...we're good to go.

Alas, after I got it home I found a bulge in the barrel. Shop gave me a full refund. I'd have just swapped for another one if they'd had one.

Oh, and happy birthday.

Nice gun though. Had one when i was young and would like to get another one.
 
Nice rifle, enjoy it. I had one a long time ago and it was a great little gun, just as you described.

You did not pay too much. Remember, they don't make them anymore and they can only go up in value. You've got a real classic there.
 
Thanks guys...the only reason I could finally justify paying the premium "collectors" price for this near new rifle was that it was my birthday. I retired last year and figure that I only have so many left, eh?

I really kept holding off expecting some company somwhere to get the hint and put them back in production.

It'll be a disappointment to some collector, but this one will be out woodsbumming, plinking at random targets, taking rabbits and squirrels and likely pick up some scratches and drop in value.

So what? I figure I'm worth it.
