...well, not the gun, just the permit.

I had my CCW permit hidden behind some pictures in one of those wallet inserts. I didn't think it would be a big deal to stick it in there because I've already shown my nosy students the pictures. When I went to my wallet today to give someone a dollar, they noticed the pics again and wanted to see them to kill time. One of the louder students went fishing around behind the pictures and pulled the permit and yelled it out to the whole class!

Most of them were interested, but weren't really shocked. I guess a lot of the parents here are gun owners too, this being a rich Orange County high school. One of the kids said that her dad had 10 guns hidden around the house.

Word will spread like wildfire and if one class knows, the whole school will know within a day or two. Hope I don't get fired over this! Not that it really matters much anyway; I'm moving to Bama this August!

You gave someone your wallet to "look through" at the pictures? :uhoh:

Biiiiig mistake.

I wished my teachers passed around their wallet for me to 'look at pictures' :uhoh:

In HS, one of my teachers showed me his CPL. He knew I was a gun nut, though, and didn't make it a habit to tell let people know.

San Francisco county has a single digit number of CCW holders. I've met the sherriff on occasion, and I know his daughter (we were just classmates). Maybe next time I see him I'll talk about it.

Contrary to popular opinion, you can get a CCW permit in CA. You just have to live in the right county. Up here in the north end of the state, several counties almost have a shall issue policy. I don't know too much about the rest of the state, but opinions and public policy about guns and the 2nd Amendment seem to change in direct relationship to distance from population centers up here.

You can be assured that you will be scrutinized and asked if you carry at school, which is illegal even with a CCW. Plainly put, don't carry on school grounds, and you should be fine, CCW does not equal gun.

If you do get fired for this, and you don't carry at school, then you have a wrongful termination suit on your hands.

I find it a hard to believe that at least a little part of you didn't want them to find it. Who gives their wallet to a school class to rummage through and thinks that they won't find something that's in there?!

Actually, it is legal to carry on school grounds, as long as the local school board hasn't made a policy against it.

It would be very nice to have Cali. divided into North and South. Same in Oregon and Washington. Carve our Portland (Multnomah Co.) and Seattle (King Co.) and have city/states... would make the rest of those states very happy, IMO.

Hope you're not fired and in fact are given the task of bringing in Eddie Eagle, since you've shown you have a firearm interest! Now that would be a good thing!

It isn't just there, that's the way it is everywhere.....just like it changes from blue to red...amazing isn't it?

Really? I did not know that. Not that I don't believe you, but do you have a site to point me too?

I didn't pass around the wallet, just the picture insert. Since our permits are flimsy pieces of paper, the best place for me to put is behind the pictures. Now I know that I'll have to think of something else, maybe cutting up one of those plastic holders for baseball cards.

I'm also pretty certain that it's legal to carry on school grounds here in CA. It's just that I might be fired for it, but I don't think I'd face any criminal charges.

I was thinking of this on the drive home. Dude, how sweet would it be to get a fat check from the Dioceses? Everyone knows that they're making all kinds of payouts now for the priests' actions.

Now you know they're not gonna TP your house, at least. =D By the way, what school do you teach at? Just out of curiosity.

I'll give you Detroit if you want to test that theory out.

Check the CA Attorney General's digest of Kali gun laws:

CA Firearms Laws 2005

You'll note that every prohibition on firearms possession includes a list of exempted persons - peace officers and CCW holders specifically, including for schools.

Now, an issuing sheriff/CoP may require you to agree to other conditions; OC indeed has a list of about 25 prohibitions you agree to in order to receive your permit. But while violation COULD lead to revocation (which I would like to avoid :scrutiny: ) there is no Penal Code violation involved.

Recently at our son's high school I was in charge of raffling off a Winchester commerative 30-30 (The Centenial) for the booster club fundraiser.. As a FFL I was allowed to have a table at all the sporting events with the rifle on the table. Ah, the joys of red state life!

Amen! Do you have any idea what a great place this state would be if we could pawn detroit off on canada or ohio? Thing is, nobody in their right mind would take them.
