What a Great Evening! I went to my third gun collector's club meeting, Pioneer Gun Collectors, and won the $500 drawing! I now have a year to purchase a firearm from any club member and the club will pay the first $500 of the price, or all of the price if the gun is less than $500!!
I was a bit embarrased since some of the members have never won the drawing ... I won on my third meeting (only my first meeting after becoming a full-fledged member )
Even more embarrassing was the fact that my son was the person the club president chose to pull the names out of the hat
But the president validated the draw and now I have won!! And it's my birthday tomorrow to boot
So the excitement really begins...what to buy?
I have wanted a sharps-type rifle for some time, but a club member has counseled me that these are the most enjoyable if you build them yourself, (with the assistance of the gunsmith when needed)
I don't have a .223, and everyone should ya know
I would love to become competent at 300 + yard shots, first for fun at the range, but later possibly for hunting. But I don't know if my current limitations are from my current .308 rifles or my changing eyesight?
The first thing someone said was that I should get an AK, but I had an AK and did not like it/sold it.
I like the idea of maybe an AR or an FAL, or maybe another M1, I guess I am sorta sold on the idea of another rifle as opposed to another pistol or shotgun.
The limitations of buying from a club member is not really bad at all, as these guys have awesome collections and many are FFL's.
Any suggestions?
