Decided to roll the dice and get one of these shotguns ($319 + Tax). Never had a 97 of any type so this was a chance to buy one at a relatively reasonable price. The blueing is actually pretty well done, as is the heatshield/bayonet lug attachment. Bought a replica (what else) M1907 sling to go on it and it looks pretty sharp.

The wood on these 6th generation examples is Missouri walnut which is a nice touch, I guess. Machining is a little rough in places but better than I expected overall.

Next will be a range trip to see how it works. The action could use a little smoothing but repeated operation should help that.

Anyone happy/dissatisfied with theirs?

I've got one...

I bought it to shoot Cowboy action. It is over two years old and runs well. I have shot a few cases of shells through it and it goes bang every time. The action is still stiffer then I would like and will someday end up at the local Cowboy gunsmith who specializes in them. I have not taken it in yet as I am having too much fun with it. If you do a search of the SASS forums you will find alot of info on them and how to slick it up yourself, if your so inclined. The master is Coyote Cap (http://www.coyotecap.com/), he worked with IAC/NORINCO, helping them turn a bad reproduction into a functioning firearm. He is a wealth of information.

Enjoy it.
