Iams Partners With Leading Anti-Hunting Organization- (01/09)
National
The Iams Company, maker of Iams and Eukanuba pet foods, has joined forces
with
the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), the nation's largest
anti-hunting organization.

The company is helping sponsor the Pet Fest America tour, a series of animal
shows in major metropolitan areas, nationwide. The shows were developed by
HSUS.
They debuted in early 2003 and will continue through April 2004.

"Sportsmen, and in particular sporting dog owners, understand the threat
HSUS
poses to hunting, field trialing and other activities," said Bud Pidgeon,
president of the U.S. Sportsmen's Alliance. "Iams has fallen into the same
trap
as some other businesses and it needs to be educated."

Companies such as General Mills, Accor Hotels, Pet Safe, Sears, and Ace
Hardware
ended relationships with HSUS after thousands of sportsmen levied strong
protest.

"The Pet Fests are basically pet owner education and welfare events and also
serve to educate and entertain consumers," Kelly Vanasse, Iams associate
director of external affairs told the Alliance. "We also sponsor Ducks
Unlimited, AKC and other events. We try to strike a balance."

Iams clearly doesn't understand how sportsmen will view its support for the
nation's largest anti-hunting organization.
"We are currently fighting HSUS attempts to ban dove hunting in Wisconsin,
bear
hunting in Maine and Alaska, and other anti-hunting threats around the
country,"
said Pidgeon. "Iams is adding legitimacy to HSUS's efforts."

The National Animal Interest Alliance was among those who alerted the
Alliance
of the issue.

Take Action! Sportsmen across the nation should contact Iams and educate
them
about HSUS's goals to end hunting, fishing, trapping and other forms of
animal
use. Contact President Jeffery P. Ansell, The Iams Company, 7250 Poe Ave.,

Dang! I was gonna go to that Pat Fest when it hit Baltimore. Why can't those clowns stick to rescuing puppies and kittens (good for them in that respect) and leave hunting alone?:cuss:

I still may have to go since the GF is all fired up about it, but if I do I will be attending, in the famous words of a Minnesota sheriff signing CCW licences, "SUB RECUSO".:)

EDIT: I went back and looked, the show I am thinking of is 2/7 and 2/8 and is called "World of Pets". No mention anywhere of HSUS, and it even states that all profits go to kitten rescue (which I support). I am not sure if this is the one in question or not, but as long as those anti-hunters don't get one dime I am OK with it. (and if I see they have a booth they are gonna get an earful from a REAL animal rights activist :D ).

What's the guy's name that's the studhoss of HSUS? Wayne something. Purcelles? Anyhow, in an interview for Field&Stream or Sports Afield, he went on record as saying their goal is to first stop hunting, and then stop fishing.

He's stated he's in accord with many of the views of Ingrid Newkirk of PETA "fame", which we know is against any exploitation of animals, including having them as pets. Dunno if HSUS goes this far...

Where is that written?

First off I don't use IAMS products anyway due to their usage and ill treatment of dogs in developing their product lines.
I have seen this many times that PETA is against people having pets but it isn't on their website and Ingrid has pets. Do you know where this is written?
Thanks,
BT

my three yr old JRT aint no pet!, She's part of the family. The only "exploitation" she gets is too much love :D:neener: :neener:

Explain and sources. Thanks.

There's always Eukanuba.

Oops, I didn't know Eukanuba and Iams were the same entity until I re-read the article.

NO TO IAMS!

IAMS info

if what peta says is true here, I'm afraid i'm going to have to side with peta on this one....... you do NOT treat dogs like that. Fortunately Jaki has neveer been fed IAMS. She eats 99.9% human food......... she loves chicken :)

Back when Ingrid Newkirk was first getting started with PETA, here in the U.S., she made her famous (infamous?) "A rat is a pig is a dog is a boy." statement. She was very vocal against exploitation of any animal, including farmers having milkcows or ranchers raising sheep, goats or cattle. Horseback riding or racing was evil. Having animals as pets is wrong. Hunting? Hey, take a guess! :D

Lord knows, I haven't tried to keep track of all her maunderings. I have read cites of all the above garbage, back when she made them. It's quite possible she's become more subtle, rather than in-your-face confrontational, and no longer says these sorts of things in public...

Oh. No more animals for research or use in medicine. It's exploitation to use horses to develop anti-venin against snakebite. We don't need to find "another insulin" nor use pigs in insulin's manufacture.

HSUS is very closely associated, philosophically, with PETA. And that, chillun, is why I have a knee-jerk reaction against anything they say or do. I'm judging them on what they've said and done.

When the leadership of these organizations state publicly--and they have--that a child of theirs should not be saved via medications developed from animal research, :barf: :barf: :barf:

No more Iams or Eukanuba, after reading the anti-Iams website. It may be PETA sponsored, but it is believable. Problem is, I think that most dog food is probably tested at places like these.

I buy the expensive kind and still feed them off my plate. My dogs would rather eat nothing than Old Roy.

The bank used to hand out dog biscuits of the Old Roy persuasion, but my dogs would just ignore them until they switched to Milk Bones - I had a nice collection of Old Roy biscuits for a while.

Butch (right) was like that too...until Old Roy was all he was getting. He changed his mind pretty quick...

Bonnie (left) isn't choosy. She'll eat anything you put down & try to lick the enamel off the plate. THEN she'll go try to eat Butch's food...:what:

I believe Old Roy isn't the most nutritive dog food out there, so I'd at least go for Purina. Too many low grade by-products used. I think the ash content is high also and I've seen this being attributed to kidney problems later on.

Oh, I am also wondering why the HSUS is teaming with IAMS when there seems to be a credible report about them not ensuring that their contract testing facilities are up to standard. IAMS obviously needs the credibility, but any organization that claims to care about animal welfare should be more than reluctant, unless it's really about $$$$$$$$$.

That's why you buy the cheap dog food....

...& feed them a little off your plate like we do ours.

lol you just described my dog. We usually buy her purina or whatever (cheap) name brand is on sale. I think she eats more cat food (and poop:D) than dog food.
