Also I've got a few ideas for future months matches.
1. a left handed (weak hand) pistol match.
2. combat shotgun match. Best buckshot group at 25 yds or at least most pellets on paper after 5 shots or something.
3. Shotgun match with slugs.
4. Carbine shoot for those short rifles.
5. some kind of trick shot match. (idea still evolving, maybe splitting a shot on an axe head or something)
Those are all good, except that only one of them is a handgun match, and that's all I have! :(

So, here are some others:

6. Alternating target shoot. For 10-round autos only, or have a separate class for wheelguns and/or 8-round mags. Hang two reduced-size Q targets and alternate between them. Rapid-fire, single or 2-hand.

7. Rope shoot. Print a picture of a piece of rope and cut out the picture. Score is based on the number of shots needed to cut through the rope.

8. Software shoot. The target is a paper CD container at 50 feet. Score is based on the number of shots in the target within 60 seconds. I've done something like this with great glee, to a copy of TurboTax. :D

Any others?

Good suggestions, PD. Sorry about the non pistol suggestions I made. I do want as many people as can to participate. Anyway the rope idea is cool. We could also do a playing card type match, shooting all the hearts on a 5 of hearts or such.

With the weather finally improving mybe we can get more participation. I didn't see any scores for Runt or Oleg. Come on guys. Join in, it's fun.

ROTL and Oleg should be able to shoot this month. I know they've got at least one Mosin carbine between them! ;)

I'd like to see a 22LR pistol shoot. That should get interesting if the scores of this month are any indication.

How about a traditional Bullseye, one handed at 25 yards?

Hey, DeputyVaughn, that playing card match idea has possibilities. It could be done like a poker run in motorcycles. Print out the whole deck and take five shots; the winner is the one with the best poker hand. :D

DMK's bullseye idea would be fine, except I still stink shooting one-handed :(

How about shooting playing cards at 7 yards, on edge to try and split them? Cut a slice in cardboard, and insert card. Tough to do!

We could always replay old ideas, but enable rests this time around. That is when we start running out of ideas. The rope idea would work pretty good. Just specify a caliber though, otherwise I am going to go buy a .50 just to give me an edge!

I like the CD idea. That would make a great idea. The center hole being worth so many points. If you get the right CD it will have a ring just outside of that where it is clear and then the dark part too. Finally you can use the very outer edge too as point system. The only thing is we would have to pick a new shooting format for it.

We might also want to poll people and see how many have a timer. That would add a entirely different aspect to the postal shoots. I wouldn't mind doing the basic drill one of these months. Just in case the basic drill isn't the same basic drill you know, you use a half man silhoute target with a center 10 ring, an outer 9 ring, everything else beyond is six points, misses are zero. You have 1.5 seconds (it might now be 2 seconds) to draw from holster and shoot two rounds at 10 yards. 2.0 (maybe 2.5) to draw and shoot at 20 yards. 6.0 seconds to draw and shoot two rounds, reload, and shoot two more rounds at 30 yards. Final stage draw and shoot two at 30 yards. Time penalty is 1 point for every .25 seconds over par time. A perfect score is a 100. I have shot scores from concealment with my Glock 27 up to the low 90's and pretty consistent around the 80's. We can have an open class, a concealed class, a duty holster class. Since not everyone might have the half-man sillhoutes, we can scan one and put it as large as possible on the 8.5x11 like we do already.

I know I would finish a lot better that way than I did last month! Lets at least get a timer involved in one of our handgun matches.

How about a father/son, father/daughter or a family match.
A short range would be good for family events in case some of the family members don't shoot too often.

Excellent ideas everyone! I think we have enough to keep us going through 2003.

One idea I'm still trying to figure out is a shotgun blast shoot. I was thinking we all shoot a series of shotgun blasts at the same weight of paper. The paper weighing the LEAST after being blasted wins. Is there some way we could do this with an image instead of weight?

How about using USBR targets at 25 yards, but .....
No benchrest, you must hold the rifle.
I made up practice targets for RimfireCentral, if you're interested I'll e-mail them to you so you can check them out.
