For your consideration, from a UK paper:
http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/topsto...-if-you-see-trouble-walk-away-89520-20629459/

Boris Johnson urged people to walk away if they see a crime committed rather than risk their own lives.

The London mayor admitted he would tell his own children to "look after themselves" rather than play Good Samaritan to a victim.

Just last year, he called on people to "take a risk" and tackle thugs, saying the chance of being stabbed was "microscopic".

But Mr Johnson revealed a "very nice ex-jailbird" recently warned him: "If you see a fight in the street, don't risk it, someone might have a knife."

He said: "I'm afraid that may sound like a lack of public spirit if someone is being badly attacked.

"But if I was giving advice to my kids and there was a bar brawl it would be to look after themselves.

"Everybody is shocked by the level of violence we are seeing, particularly towards young people, and we must all work as hard as we can to reverse this dreadful trend."

And further, from http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/topsto...to-stop-knives-and-save-lives-89520-20629389/

Today the Mirror unveils a blueprint to end the epidemic of knife killings - and make the streets of our towns and cities safe once again.

It homes in on five crucial areas that must be tackled if we are defeat the scourge that is leaving a trail of ruined lives and devastated families.

We are not calling for radical new laws - but simple, measures that will see the police, parents, teachers, doctors and nurses combining to form a common front against the knife menace.

The entire nation has been shocked by the rising tide of kniferelated deaths. Now we must act. All of us.

1 Give our police tools to catch knife thugs

First, we must give police the tools they need to effectively stop and search youngsters without losing their goodwill.

The only guaranteed method of detecting a hidden knife is with a magnetic scanner. And being scanned is less offensive than being searched. Every bobby in a knife hotspot must be given a hand-held scanner.

2 Launch amnesty to bring in the blades

We must show our determination to disarm Britain with a new knife amnesty.

This will allows those in gangs who fear arrest to dump blades without fear. In the past, knives were handed in at police stations. Now secure knife boxes should be positioned in places where youngsters can visit unobserved.

3 Nurses must report treating stab victims

Doctors and nurses working in A&E must be required to tell police about on the serious knife wounds they treat.

Currently, medical staff are obliged to report gunshot injuries even if the patient does not want the police involved.

But stab wounds go unreported - so police have no chance to follow up many incidents.

4 Teach all pupils that knives solve nothing

Parents and teachers must ensure children realise that carrying a blade does not offer them any form of protection.

Every pupil aged 11 or over should have sessions with police officers who can tell from personal experience of the devastation a knife killing causes to family, friends and the larger community.

5 Texts and internet will help win battle

And we must ensure the hardhitting messages get to those who need to hear them most - by using social networking sites and text messages.

For example, texts could be sent out to every bluetooth mobile in a nightclub twice during an evening - reminding partygoers of the dangers of a row escalating out of control.

THE LIVES THAT COULD HAVE BEEN SAVED

A bar brawl is a bit different from a situation with a woman being dragged down an alley.

Presumably in a bar brawl the situation is one where those involved want to be in the fight. Why should I get involved in somebody else's rumble?

Britain still fails to acknowledge that they have a crime problem. Now, it's a knife problem. Too bad that anyone with opposable thumbs and half a brain has to power to sharpen and object and use it as a weapon. Knife amnesty? I think that all pointy objects should be removed from England, including utensils, scissors, pencils, pens, sticks, any form of metal, screwdrivers, hammers, shovels, coat hangars, etc.

It seems like Britain is reverting back to the caveman days when people make such crude tools for survival. It really is a sad experiment that the politicians refuse to acknowledge has failed miserably.

If you read the article and replace "Knife" with "Gun", it sounds just like what they did a couple of years ago claiming that if we do these things, guns will go away and we'll be safe....

Here's a lesson for ya, Stabbing me with a 4" knife blade with all your might has more damaging potential than a FMJ AK round, plus knives are more dangerous than "Assault rifles".

Think about it. Lots of force, more so than the recoil of an AK... AK's don't knock people over, but it's hard to argue that a punch can't knock someone down.

Lots of wounded area... Even if an AK round went straight through you, it would be .30" diameter hole that would close up.... much weaker than a 4" deep, 1-2" wide stab that may or may not be followed by a cutting action.

Concealability, 4" folding knife? Conceal it in the palm of your hand.... AK??? not a chance.

The mass-murderer attacks that use AKs end up wounding 30 people and 4 or 5 die.... mass murder attacks with knives? Fewer are injured, more die... ask the Chinese/Japanese/UK.
